When Steven Gerrard plays for England he always looks extremely nervous, this doesn't inspire much confidence in the other players.

He looks so terrified he will make a mistake all the time. His expression is always one of anguish.

He needs to be more confident.

Shouldn't be captain.

To be fair, Steven Gerrard has a pained look naturally.

He has quite a marked & furrowed brow & that doesn't help.

He's obviously under pressure, but this is a man that is more than used to pressure.

He carried Liverpool for years & you can't get more expectation than that of the Anfield faithful.

I mentioned this in another thread, that he looked terrified in the build-up footage and in interviews leading up to this World Cup.

But I've come to the conclusion that 95% of it is just how his face looks as others have mentioned. But he still lacks the ability to talk confidently and doesn't really have the mannerisms or drive as a leader.

What a load of rubbish - he is a natural born leader as he has proven time and time again for Liverpool and there is nothing wrong with him as captain for England .

You clearly didn't watch the 2001 Germany v England football match where he was exceptional.

You are talking about a match that happened over a decade ago?

He is not a top top player to think otherwise is delusional.

You said 'When Steven Gerrard plays for England he always looks extremely nervous'.
That includes matches that happened over a decade ago.

Delusional to think he has always looked nervous when he hasn't.

Clearly you are a troll as he is one of the most exceptional players England have and the only one deluded is you !

Gerrard looks full of confidence when he volleying balls towards goals. He's scored some amazing goals from distance.

Who cares what he's like during a press conference? For me, he is one of the stand put performers nearly every game.

Nothing wrong with nerves when you are under the microscope. It's completely natural. Good players can feed off that and the extra sharpness can improve them. I remember Zidane being sick before hitting a winning penalty in a match. If he gets nervous then anyone can.

Gary Lineker shat himself at Italia '90 too. Gerrard's got some big shoes and dirty shorts to fill.

Stick around for the whole world cup - by the final this will look like a rational thread compared to the standard of morons still to come!

Yeah, apparently Messi throws up a lot in pressure games or in the build up. He usually scores in them too.

The worst part about Zidane throwing up before that penalty was the gratuitous slow motion replays of it. No need.

When i saw the players in the tunnel before the Italy match

Gerrard looked fairly confident & calm

Joe Hart looked like he'd just come out of a booth, after watching Silent Hill

They do need to be able to relax and enjoy the tournament

Is this a case, of over-worry, and trying to over-think it all. Just relax !!

I don't care if he's nervous or relaxed but I do care about how much he gives the ball away.

Something he does alot.

Yep, (albeit not from nerves) he got caught short and had to wipe himself on the pitch.

Luckily it was all caught on camera! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_PLu9KWNK8
