I think England CAN beat Uruguay and believe that it will be a competitive match where England will play well again.

However it's early days in the competition. Both England and Uruguay have lost. But England played well and scored one goal, Uruguay played badly and scored one goal.

I felt that although Uruguay were poor in their opener a lot had to do with Uruguay being ill prepared, arrogant about the opposition and appeared to be lazy.
I think that Uruguay will treat the England game very differently and it will be a big test for both teams.

I think that going by the first match England appear to be capable of beating Uruguay.
I think they will somehow. But I really don't think it's going to be as easy as some think it will who may feel buoyant due to a very good first performance by England.

On a side note I hear advertisements to feature in tonight's live coverage are costing upwards of half a million pounds for 30 seconds.

I also think thats what they should do. Get Johnson and Baines to really push high when in possession and let Gerrard drop even deeper to make 3 centre halves to give abit of extra protection from a Uruguay counter and would mimic a 3-5-2 when not in possession. 3-5-2 works best against teams who play a 4-4-2 but formations don't stay the same all they way through the game, theres attack and defensive positioning.
Plus its not a major shift from what they are playing at the moment.

Perhaps another bit of bad news for England as Lugano has been ruled out with a knee injury.


I like how only Italy's chances count as potential goals, despite how Candreva hitting the post would never have gone in anyway as Hart just had it covered. I guess it's easy to ignore the facts: England had more shots and more shots on target (even taking into account Italy hitting the woodwork), Rooney missed two great chances, Baines had a free kick saved and Sirigu made a number of other good saves to keep England out. Perhaps England should have won about 5-2 if we're playing that game.

It'd be a shame if Sterling was pushed out wide after giving a solid performance in the number 10 role, but I guess we HAVE to accommodate Rooney somehow.

There wasn't much pressure the other night and we played reasonably well. Tonight the pressure will be far greater and it's going to be interesting to see if this young side can cope with that.

If the game goes as expected and we have more of the ball while Uruguay sit deep and look to counter, it'll be a real test for us as the pace of Sterling, Sturridge and Welbeck becomes much less effective. A lot will depend on Rooney's inventiveness and guile.

An advertisement slot on ITV this evening has been sold for over £500,000 for a single 30 second advert.

Potentially 1/3 of everyone in the United Kingdom will be watching the match live this evening on ITV and will see the break just before kickoff and just into half time. When you look at it like that £500,000 is a small price to pay for this one opportunity only exposure.

It is also important to note that many viewers tonight will be in the A1 advertisement category (young males with alot of disposable income). These males watch television on average the least of all age groups and are most lucrative to advertisers.

Even if Suarez plays I don't think he will be at his best. I think England will win 2-1. I can see Rooney scoring too.

We played well against a very well organised Italian defence. Probably the best defence in the tournament. We had numerous goal scoring opportunities.

Suarez isn't a hundred percent match fit, he says he is purely to mess with our minds.

I don't know about you but I tend to go make a cup of tea, step outside for a fag, make something to eat whenever adverts come one.

It amazes me that adverts are still a thing, its been proven they have lost an awful lot of use in the last 10 or so years.

Suarez did not take part in the previous game when they really needed him to dig the side out of a hole. The fact he did not come on for the last 10 minutes just to get a run out was telling.

It is difficult to see how a player can go from not able to get on the pitch for 10 minutes to playing a full game in less than a week. I think this just might be mind games but honestly England have no choice anyway but to go out and win this game.

For me their are goals to be had for England here if they play to attack as they did in the first game they will win. Uruguay have to change both their centre back and left and the defence did not look all the bright to start with.

The only question really is how England will perform. Not matter how well they play individual mistakes as we saw with the goal keepers can still undo the team no matter how well they play.

I still think quite a lot is in England's favour right now we should be able to win this and get through the group !!!

Soooo what happens when Rooney's moved to the centre and still plays shite? Move Sturridge because we've now decided he's out of position as a 10 and that actually he's better up front?

I think we can win this, but I don't see it being easy.

We played a good attacking game against Italy and kept a high line, but Italy naturally drop deep anyway, so I'd put some of our territorial advantage down to that. I don't see Uruguay sitting back and allowing us so much possession in their half and, as a result, I think we will see less of the ball and have a lot more defending to do.

Both teams really need the win and it might be a little bit nervy and cautious to begin with, but hopefully, the pace we have up front will be enough to catch them on the break and grab a couple of goals.

To be honest, Rooney has so much pressure on him now that I can't see how he can possibly shine in this tournament. It clearly gets to him.
