Can Thomas Muller break the all-time WC goalscorer record?

One game into his 2nd World Cup and he's already on 8 goals. Aged just 24 he could easily have two more World Cups in him.

Of course, Klose (14) is only 2 goals from managing the same achievement, so there's still a chance for him if Germany use him in this tournament.

Ronaldo currently holds the record for his 15 goals, scored across three World Cups (1998, 2002, 2006).

I could have sworn that the Brazilian Ronaldo was at the 1994 World Cup as well, in a sort of Theo 2006 capacity, so does that count as him being at four World Cups or not??

Either way Muller has got an excellent chance of getting Closer to his teammate, and to also overtake Ronaldo's tally, if he can stay injury free, as Germany always go deep into this tournament.

Yeah I think Ronaldo was part of the 1994 squad and yes Muller can and probably will break the record. Is Miroslav Klose in the Germany squad this year? If so, he can and probably will break the record before Muller does.

yeah Ronaldo was in the 94 squad, but didn't see a single minute of action

Yeah, he was on the bench yesterday.

(The reason he didn't play and now probably won't break the record but will break his leg is because I've got money on him for golden boot)

I'm sure it does. I merely listed the World Cups he scored at.

If Thomas Muller wins the Golden Boot this time around then he will not just be the first player to win two in a row, but the first to win two full stop.

He may well do.

I think Neymar will hold the record, once he finishes playing. I can see him getting 6-8 goals in this tournament alone.

Looks like I may have put the wrong player in the title. Klose now just needs 1 more goal to overtake Ronaldo and become the all-time top scorer at the World Cup.

He'll already have become (even more of) a legend in Germany tonight by overtaking Gerd Muller's total.

There's nothing to say Muller couldn't overtake that in future as well though.

Hope not. Cant stand him! Strutting about!

After he scored his hat-trick, this thought came to mind. I dared to think, he could do at this very tournament. But Germany didn't look very creative against Ghana. So now I have my doubts. But I will say, if Germany get to the final, then he's likely going into the 2018 World Cup, more than capable of obtaining the 'all-time world cup goal scorer' accolade.

Klose is now joint top scorer with Ronaldo. He came on against Ghana and grabbed himself a goal. Well done to him. If he gets more game time, he may well take the lead.
