Argentina 78 my first one I remember, there was something so slightly mysterious and I corrupt about it. That added to the excitement of these foreign footballers with big hair and getting to stay up late as a young child to watch the games was very exciting

I'm surprised anyone would pick 2002 as their favourite. 2002 an 2010 were marred by disgusting referee decisions and quite poor football.
I suppose most folks favourites are their "first" one or two, however I wonder how many fourteen year olds actually enjoyed 2010 (?)

Got to be '82 for me. The Brazil side that year were the best since 1970, the France V W Germany semi-final and the Italy v Brazil games were the best games I had ever seen up to that point. The Italians were great with Tardelli, Rossi & Zoff, the French were superb, England were, well..England really..although I think if Brooking & Keegan were fully fit we may have had a decent chance. The Northern Ireland team beating Spain that night was incredible to watch.
All the games seem to have been played in grounds where the crowds seem closer to the pitch, which contributed to the atmosphere which you felt even watching on TV
Didn't really fully enjoy another major tournament until Euro 96..although the Euros always seem to be more open.

I watched that Ni vs Spain game with my Dad and 90 year old Irish grandad.(I was nine) Was great stuff, we were going crazy the second half (Armstrong scored after 47 minutes, And had Donaghy sent off with half an hour to go... Spain were constantly on the attack, with NI just belting it away "that's the stuff"!

I never liked football before this WC, then happen to watch a game and I fell in love with football!!
Never forget Platt's goal against Belgium in the dying moments...England slowly building confidence - Was heartbroken when we got knocked out on penalties against the then West Germany.
That WC had everything - Drama, Roger Milla and his dancing Cameroons, Roberto Baggio and his mullet-ponytail, John Barnes and his dodgy rap...
...Then there was Terry Butcher and his bloodied bandaged head, Stuart Pearce's thunder thighs, Waddle, Parker, Walker, Beardsley, Gazza...

I agree - Which makes it heart-breaking! We haven't been that close to a WC final since
Italy had a fantastic run of undefeated games before the World Cup and I kept telling one of my mates that the Italians would win the WC in Germany---he just laughed and stuck with England. I had the last laugh 
The semi-final against Germany was the greatest ever and THAT last goal with Fabio collecting the ball with his chest then passing to Totti, who passed to Gilardino, who passed to Del Piero----what a finish
