This does remind me of Denmark beating France in 2002.

Zidane was clearly not fit and France were underprepared, not sure what the excuse for Spain is tonight.

Their team has become stale.

Didn't Italy as well?

Champions 2006 and I'm sure they were out in the group stage in 2010??

I don't think he would have, Casillas is captain and has been pretty much undroppable, hence why Lopez isn't even there.

Or Casillas is simply at a stage of his career where he's now winding down and isn't as good as he once was.

For the record, Schmeichel is arguably the greatest keeper to ever play the game. Don't talk boll**ks and expect to not be pulled up on it.

Fair to focus on Casillas's poor punch but the control and finish by Aranguiz is to die for. Incredible skill under pressure.

Nothing would have ousted Casillas from the goal. Valdes has had better seasons before and still didnt get a sniff in. This year wouldnt have been any different.

Hmmm, only played in the champions league in which they won , isnt much of an argument

Yes - they didn't win a match and finished bottom of their group.

Calm down, calm down!!

He wasn't so good for Denmark as he was for your team

Spain's defence is nonexistent, can't keep the ball as well as before, no potent striker -- Costa is a flat-track bully, nothing more.

Na they need to make other player changes , Iniesta, Costa and Alonso off , Cazorla, Villa and Koke on .

Looks like Spain are a spent force doesn't it . Chile are a yard or so faster and more determined although Costa should have scored and Alonso wouid have normally buried the chance that fell to him .

Nah, he played well for Villa at the end of his career, and he scored for us

I was thinking that Lopez wasn't picked for political reasons - he's the man who replaced Iker and they apparently don't get on. However, no player should be undroppable if they are playing poorly.

Spain look stale and out of ideas and Costa seems unfit. They needed to be bringing energy and youth into the attack. They've got to go gung ho now.

I would hook Pedro off because he's been dire. Stick Santi on for him and replace the unfit Costa with Villa. I'm sure Del Bosque is tempted to put Reina on though.

Tactics have been hopeless too. If Australia had had better crossers against Chile, they would have won that game. So why isn't Spain using the same tactics. Crosses to Costa to knock in.

Not sure how that really backs up what you just said. It'd be like saying George Best wasn't as good for Northern Ireland and using that as some kind of argument against him.

Feel free to also rewind to 1992 as well regarding Denmark.

This front cover of Private Eye magazine could equally apply to Spain

The delivery to Costa has been dire and he isn't looking fit enough either. He looks off the pace.

George Best played equally well for NI .. but had a poor team around him. Thanks for backing my argument up
