I had an interesting moment sharing my 3 one plan connection with a mate who's EE 4G plan had virtually run out of data, while we were having a beer.
He's not that into the world of phones, so couldn't beleive my claim that I could share my connection with him via wifi, and "give him my internet" (as he put it).
He enjoys regular, decent double digit/mb speeds on EE4G, and was incredulous that my connection was truly unlimited.
Halfway into him downloading a 200mb file, he noted that my connection speed had dropped rapidly - to less than 0.5mb.
- "So that's how they do it then" - he said. "They give you unlimited data, but if you hammer it, they slow you down so much you don't bother to use it. I think I'd rather stick with a limited amout that stayed fast"
Now, i know it's not always as clear cut as that, as I've enjoyed some great, consistent tethering speeds in other locations - but, I thought his observations of the situation put an interesting spin on our notion of "unlimited".
