Apparently they have doing it for a while in South America.

Could it be introduced next season in say the football league, premier league might take a bit of persuading

I said in another thread, they were doing it when I used to watch South American football 10-12 years ago. It's so blindingly obviously useful, with no negatives that I can think of, that i'm sure it will take at least another 7 or 8 years to get here

It's sad when they circle the ball on a free kick.

I thought I read somewhere that it was going to be used in the Premier League this year.
Such a simple and obvious solution to cheating.

Edit: Just checked - it is being used in the Champions League this year.

I thought I read it was going to be used inn the Champions League.

Read that the FA are waiting to see how successful it is, PL wont get it in the upcoming season

I just wonder who will be the first goalie to complain about the foam being on the ball causing him to drop it, as the foam around the ball can be excessive sometime

haha yes

But the ball isn't going anywhere, it's kinda cool for the wall but it sums up football for me.

If a player keeps moving in the wall just card him.

How long are they going to wait? Its been used for over a decade in South America (according to a poster in this thread). Its worked really well in the WC, that should be enough for it to be adopted by the FA.

Only problem I can see is our weather, rain will wash the thing away before everyones ready.

Is there a YouTube mock up yet with a ref taking his can out and spraying graffiti or a picture of a you-know-what? I can't be the only one to think of that.

It's great too if you want to have a shave during the match. A player can stop for a quick facial.

When i first heard of the idea I thought it was stupid. Surely no footballer is daft enough stick to a line just because it is covered in foam. To my shock it does actually work but I feel spraying the circle around the ball is daft as they should be able to move the ball at least backwards from the spot.

So I would like to see the foam used in the english leagues. In fact I would like to go a step further and allow the refs to carry a mace / pepper spray. In players are surrounding the ref to argue the point the ref should be allow to spray them with pepper spray and start the match. It would soon solve that problem. Then you could extend this for players going down to easy. If they fake injury a little pepper spray to the face to really give them something to cry about then they are off the field for 10 minutes for their crime.

Is this serious?

The premier league's apparantly delayed use of the spray, its not happening for the 2014/15 season.

Quote:
“Vanishing spray will not be introduced into the Premier League next season despite it being considered a success at the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.

The new initiative marks out where a free-kick should be taken from and where the defensive wall must stand, aiming to prevent players cheating.

It will be used in the Champions League from next season.

But the Premier League and Football Association will monitor how effective that is before introducing it.

The FA remains open-minded about possible future use should it prove to be an overwhelming success.

But Premier League officials do not think encroachment or ball moving at set pieces is a significant problem in the competition.

The spray, which has been used in recent seasons in the Brazilian and Argentine leagues, evaporates about a minute after being administered from a canister by the match official.

The Football League has yet to comment on the vanishing spray.”

Anyone here think the Premier League is going to bail on this? If the Champions league is using it next season, and a lot of other European leagues are also doing it then surely pressure will be put on our country to follow suit?

As there's not much on the next game, Joe Hart will probably grab the can off the referree and have a quick shampoo on the pitch...
