Danny Murphy
There's been a lot of discussion on here about commentators during this World Cup. I personally think Danny Murphy has been excellent in the Spain v Chile match. Not full of cliches and not afraid to tell it like is, while adding a bit of humour to his commentary as well. Good choice BBC!

He's got one depressing sounding voice though.

Yes! It's Atkinson's voice I keep hearing hints of, I couldn't place it.

i also had a revelation last night of how good he is. hopefully he can become the main man for the BBC moving forwards like lawro used to be.
p.s where is hanson? i thought his retirement was AFTER the world cup? |

That's a point, the BBC said that he'd be part of the team there, has he even been on at all?

I wonder if he just decided to retire a few weeks early instead? He's writing articles about the WC, but it's odd to not see him there for at least the England game.

He was an instant improvement on Lawrenson the moment he started speaking and didn't make it sound like commentating at the World Cup was the worst chore imaginable.

I've always rated Murphy as a pundit the few times I saw him on MOTD2 last season. He speaks a lot of sense. Good to see this translate well to the commentary box too.
Hopefully the BBC gives him a bit of a promotion after Hansen's retirement. |

Wonder why Martin O'Neill went to ITV? This explains why the BBC got Lennon, which was confusing considering he has never played in a world cup.

Right on cue, it appears Alan Hansen has shown up according to the Colombia-Ivory Coast thread. Maybe he's the Beetlejuice of football pundits, or possibly we have special power?

Very natural and engaging - seemed oblivious of the fact he had the ear of millions.

I love Danny Murphy
I loved in his commentary before the USA game when showing clips of Dempsey scoring for Fulham. "He will struggle to get the same world class delivery tonight" As both the goals scored were laid on by him. Danny Murphy will be an excellent coach one day |
