It's not. In international football in Europe, two years gets you one attempt at a competition and less than 20 competitive games. In half that time in club football you get at least two competitions, a LOT more time with your team and a lot more games under your belt.

The only way Hodgson being fired should even be a consideration at this point is if he'd have failed to qualify for the tournament. This is the first campaign he's oversaw the whole way through.

Yes I do. Compare the way England played against Italy on Saturday to the way they played against the same team two years ago in Euro 2012. At least this time England created plenty of chances and showed speed and energy for long spells.

Paragraph 1. I agree and I know all this. I'm not disputing how few games it is or how that compares to club football. What I've said consistently from the start is that he's been to two finals now and many international managers choose to move on after that period of time so I could see him doing that. I'm not making a judgment on him as a manager or calling for him to be sacked which is what your reply seems to indicate you think I am saying.

If we're talking about pretending things exist, where did you read me say the majority of people are doing this? There are a small handful of calls for his head and the suggestion that he's only hanging round for the money, that's the kind of thing I'm talking about. The Hodge is building a team to make a serious attempt to win the next World Cup, so he should not be sacked even we do not progress beyond the group stages.

Out of interest could you be more specific in how you think he is "building a team" not disagreeing (yet!) just want to know what in particular you think he's doing well.

Roy is building a side that is integrating lots of younger and less experienced players. They've been handed a very tough group but were still pretty good against Italy. If England go out he should still be allowed to go on to Euro 2016 to let him bring his project the full way and have some of these players as the finished article.

Up until now he's done a very good job, despite taking over at a time when England are unsettled and in transition. This is the weakest squad we've had in years, yet against Italy, we put in one of our best tournament performances in a long time.

He's barely put a foot wrong so far and the improvement on the performances in the euros and our last game is there for all to see. Roy has managed here, there and everywhere and has proven international managerial experience, as well as getting smaller clubs to overachieve. What he did at Fulham was fantastic.

We've tried foreign managers and it didn't work. If we are sticking with English managers, Hodgson is the obvious candidate. I'm so glad the FA got something right for once and hired Roy over Redknapp. Old 'Arry would have been another Kevin Keegan.

I hope Hodgson is still the England manager at the next World Cup and I think there's a good chance that he will be.

I think England should be looking at making the final of Euro 2016 with the wealth of attacking talent we now have, it would help to find another very good defender or 2 though.

Forget doing anything at Euro 2016 with Hodgson in charge, qualification is more or less guaranteed for it and would be perfect for a modern forward thinking tactically astute manager to have the 2 years to get the team prepared.

These group of players are crying out for someone who really knows what they are doing to lead them, we all saw what happened the other day, a tactically astute manager would have gotten England something out of that, thats what good managers do, they make the difference in tight games, do people really believe Roy is the man to make the difference in a 50/50 game? anyone remember Montenegro away when it was one way traffic and England were getting battered in the second half and we were crying out for subs/change of tactics and Roy was sat there looking a million miles away, lol, seriously!

Hodgson doesn't know what hes doing with the full backs, they are shackled and left exposed just like the high energy Henderson in this system, thats not even mentioning the front 4, he plays this 4231 because he was pressured (rightfully so) to ditch 442 but he doesn't really know what hes actually really doing with the system, England are still stactic up front even with the all that attacking talent available, those players are not static for their clubs.

As you say, Rodgers/Martinez or Pochettino would be perfect to take this team forward, they are all front foot positive flexible modern managers, the total opposite of Roy, can anyone ever imagine Roy switching systems during a game or at half time if it was needed? no chance!, hes as inflexible and rigid as you can get.

People are blinded because England were so awful in South Africa, Capello made many mistakes but his biggest was not having any pace in the team, that can cover up a fair bit of incompetence little like its doing with Roy now a little bit.

England couldn't get any worse than South Africa so we were always going to improve! its a weak excuse saying we have improved because we arn't really any great shakes still, actually Roy with these great attacking options might well bomb us out after just 2 games! seriously its mad to me that anyone would be fine with him to waste another 2 years.

We really do have some great talent in those front 6 positions, Walcott, Sterling, Ox, Sturridge, Barkley, Lallana, Henderson, Wilshere, Welbeck, Rooney - ain't too shabby is it? but it wont ever reach its potential with the tactically inept and rigid Hodgson in charge, never.

Still think we will win tommorow despite Hodgson, anyway see you all in 2 years when nothing has changed.

In answer to the OP's question, No, not if England are finally playing well together. That's a good sign of things to come.

I've never rated Hodgson but at the same time I don't know who could replace him if we're looking for English coaches.

I've always though we should go with a German/Dutch coach, they have players that play probably the closet to the way our players play, never seen the point going for a "Spanish Type" coach as we never seem to have those players that suit that style of play.

Roy's done a fairly good job and is beginning to put a good side together.
I think he should at least see his contract out and take us through to Euro 2016.

So all the 'best foreign players' are ALSO playing for the top clubs in the 'best league' in the world then. Kinda contras everything out then really, doesn't it.

Hodgson got us out of a tough group at Euro 2012, and got us to Brazil. England are now showing signs of having made great progress in that time. Even if we are out of the World Cup come next Tuesday it would be crazy to get rid of him.
