Series 8 Writers

Does nobody else find it weird that they're currently filming episode 9 but we have no idea who's written it or who's writing episode 10? The Beeb have been very uncommunicative lately, especially where writers are concerned...

I really hope that at least one episode will be written by Neil Cross...

Steven Moffat, Phil Ford, Stephen Thompson, Mark Gatiss, Peter Harness, Gareth Roberts, Jamie Matheson.

Think I'm right in saying those are the 7 confirmed writers? Neil Cross is highly likely, I suspect.

Considering they are approaching the end of shooting, agree with the OP. Thought we would've known by now.

So far ...

Episodes 1, 4, 11/12: Steven Moffat
Episode 2: Phil Ford
Episode 3: Mark Gatiss
Episode 5: Stephen Thompson
Episode 6: Gareth Roberts
Episode 7: Peter Harness
Episode 8: Jamie Mathieson

Episodes 9 and 10 could be anyone's really. I'm hoping for Neil Cross too. Loved both his Series 7 episodes.

I'm all for secrecy. Can't imagine it's anyone new though, they are few and far between and would have merited an announcement.

Surprised to see people wanting Neil Cross to return. His two episodes last series were very boring in my opinion.

Hide was cracking, The Rings of Akhaten was dodgy... but it was a last-minute commission, and had a lot of interesting ideas, so I'm happy to give that one a pass, too.

He's also talked about writing a script for series 8. Can't remember when, might've been early stages, might not have come to pass, but it's a longstanding murmur.

I'd figure the other could be Tom MacRae, but I'm surprised there aren't even rumours.

I do hope Cross is writing an episode. I loved Hide and Rings wasn't as bad as a lot of people make out.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gatiss was writing either 9 or 10, they did say he had two eps.

Neil Cross was talking about writing an episode last year. It's very likely.

Quote:
““I am going back. I have got story ideas tucked away, but if I told you about them I would have to kill you. There’s a whole bunch of stuff I want to do. Steven is clearly very busy with the 50th anniversary special and Christmas special, but I have to find out from Steven what his intentions for the Doctor are and what sort of stories he wants me to write.”

"I am really excited about writing for Peter Capaldi"”

I'll take Cross over Gareth Roberts any day of the week. The Shakespeare Code was passable, but Wasp, Lodger and Closing were bloody awful.
