Who would play in that role if we drop Gerard? There's no-one who can play it well, including the Captain.

Gerrard isn't good enough at this level and hasn't been for about 4 years

If Costa Rica get a draw tommorrow.

I think Gerrard will step Down as Captain, Think he will retire from International football alongside Lampard.

I agree that Lampard would have been a better choice. Gerrard was just terrible.

I think Gerrard will retire from International football after the World Cup, thought that before the tournament started even more convinced now, i think it is the right time for Gerrard and probably Lampard to retire so we can move forward with the next generation of players. The likes of Gerrard and Lampard have had there day.

I don't think we can rule out Lampard yet he might play euro 16

Lampard and Gerard will both retire, or simply not be picked again. I don't think there's any chance they will be used in another tournament. It looks like Lampard wont be getting any game time in Brazil.

Possibly, think it is more likely he will carry on than Gerrard though i still expect him to retire from international football. I think a lot will depend on were Lampard ends up next, if he signs for another English club he will still be playing at the highest level and may still be in contention however if he ends up going to America and playing for New York, i think he will retire as he won't be playing at the required level.

Both gerrard and frank are past it at the top level. Especially so in two or four years time.

They should both be thanked and then never get near the team again.

Rooney will be 33 at the next World Cup. Time to get rid of him too.

Rooney will still get the next euros though.

Rooney is a good player but he isn't good enough at this level, too slow in thought and movement and too heavy at this level

Can't see it myself, especially if Oxlade Chamberlain is fit. I'm not a fan of Wilshire but would rather see him have more game time. Maybe if Sterling starts on bench to be give more impact coming on later.

Indeed, they have no legs anymore.

What next, when gerrard is even slower I've no doubt he will play in goal.
