the players dont always give their full effort in friendlies. Do we really want an entire tournament like that? It would basically be the commonwealth games of football where people turn up but dont really give a shit

If Gibraltar are involved then I can't see Spain accepting an invite.

Wouldn't mind seeing Commonwealth tournament with the best 16 teams from the Commonwealth
England might actually win it

No don't - we tried this with Ireland, Northern Ireland Scotland and Wales.

Only players turned up was for Wales and Scotland both Irish teams had mickey mouse team out players out with everyone complaining of injuries. (Just couldn't be arsed turning up)

That gives our home countries a proper competition which can't end up in elimination from a major.”

And would the best European countries want to play in this tournament?

Hampden hasn't held 60k for about 25 years.

He is speaking about the Carling Cup held a couple of years back in Dublin. It suffered from a complete lack of interest, you didn't know it had even happened, and hideous attendances which included 529 for Wales against the north of Ireland.

Are England in the habit of playing against teams that don't want to beat them?

The problem is UEFA are bringing in a new tournament mainly replacing friendlies. Currently being called 'the league of nations' which depending on ranking could put England with top seeds.
Of course the home internationals could replace the current qualifying but of course we risk not going to the world cup at all.
