Which clown actually thought rooney was world class? Hahahaha go on own up.

Misses a sitter against italy. Misses a sitter against uruguay, hits it straight at the keeper.

Suarez, gets two chances and buries them.

Stop with this nonsense that rooney is world class, anyone with a brain can see that hes not

In 1990 Gazza was considered to be at least in the top 2-3 best players in the world, arguably on par with a declining Maradona.
By who?

He really wasnt. He was potemtially but screwed it up.

Fact: England dont have any world class players and havent had one for a long long time (apart from scholes)

They are so overhyped and overrated it defies belief

I really can't wait until the World Cup is over.
Me too, then I wont have to listen to people chatting horseshit on here and they can just toddle off back to what they normally do, and leave us real fans in peace.

Rooney pretty much kept England in the game, his composure was better than that of his team-mates, and only an idiot would try to deny his ability.

Rooney is the most overhyped and overrated English player of all time, and he certainly isn't world class, but I thought he played quite well tonight.

I'm more worried about the rest of our team, which is full of players who are a million miles away from being world class.

Rooney has got quality definatly, but he's not world class. He's too lumbering and slow and doesn't have the guile or cutting edge to take crucial chances. The standard of defending in the premiership is between shit and shocking, but at international level he's shown up as limited.

This. I don't like Rooney, but he actually played the best tonight. Gerrard was shockingly bad, so was England's defence.

He's always been an above average player, nothing more. I feel for him though, he's never been able to deflect the pressure of being dubbed 'England's saviour' by the media in 2004. He played much better tonight though but even then he couldn't dominate. He'll never be on the same level as the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Robben who are the true world class. People need to give him a break though.

Only an idiot would call rooney world class.

No ones saying that rooney hasnt got ability, but robben, messi, ronaldo, bale, suarez, these are all world class players. Rooney is a good player and nothing more

I don't remember calling him world-class but he is more than just a good player, he is above average.

Anyone who watches football would have Rooney in their team any day of the week.

That may be so, but to paint yourself as "a real fan" when you are here on a general entertainment forum as opposed to a dedicated football one does come across as a wee bit arrogant. I normally talk about football on a fan site dedicate to my club, I've come here over the last week to see a cross section of opinions on teams I know little of, I can live with people who know less about football than me but I'm not going to slag them off because I'm more of a football nerd.

Love him or loathe him, Wayne Rooney is probably going to be playing International football for England for the next 5 years or so, he is still one of our better players and at 28 years of age he has a pretty good international record, 94 Caps only 32 Caps from being England's all time record appearance maker, to go alongside his 40 goals making him England's joint 4th all time scorer and just 10 goals of the all time record is a testament to that. Is Rooney a World Class player in the mode of a Ronaldo, Messi, Suarez and Robben to name but a few maybe not but he is still a brilliant player who on his day can be a handful for any team in world football tonight showed that as he was our best player and at 28 going on 29 he still has a good few years at the top level. In my opinion England would be crazy not to use Rooney as one of the figure heads of the next generation of England players as the likes of John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard have either retired or at the back end of there international careers and we need an experienced head like Rooney to guide the younger players through the international scene.

Rooney has never even threatened to be World Class, you only have to look at him to know he was never going to be world class let alone watch him play football

Had a good club career within 20 miles of where he grew up though, as a lot of English players do

I wonder who signed him for Manchester United, and played him repeatedly...

I agree. I don't even support England and I'm sick of hearing this argument about Rooney.

The boy has struggled but there's no bloody denying his ability.

However if this is not "world class" Suarez (according to the England manager), I'd hate to see what happens when he becomes world class!

A lot of the time, I think Rooney gets the most vilification purely because he's the only player the casuals have actually really heard of.

Probably right.

Especially now that Terry is no longer there either.
