I never watch England games in pubs I find it tragic to see newly purchased, Italy, Uruguay, Costa Rica shirts out for the occasion

Not pitch dark yet though

Sad if Scotland's greatest joy comes from England's failures. Doesn't sound like a strong, confident, independent nation.

I couldn't give a shit or give a second thought about England, English football teams or English people.

Sorry to disappoint you all.

As you would expect from 5 million or so individual people there are a range of attitudes towards England and their football team.

There will be those who enjoy seeing the disappointment of what they see as their main rival and will revel in that.

There's others who don't really care whether England win or lose but get annoyed at the assumption on BBC and ITV that their viewers are all England fans or who will get annoyed at any media pundits being dismissive of the opposition (like Lawro).

There's others who watch a lot of English football and would like to see England do well as they are our near neighbours.

Personally I'm in the camp that will watch England games and take an interest but I'm ambivalent overall.

Doesn't sound like the sort of country you would want to be in a Union with.

Meanwhile in Ireland, there was a lot of support for England last night. There has been an amazing sea change in attitudes here in the last few years, especially since the Queen's visit to Ireland in 2011.

The Queen visiting your country changed attitudes that much? Ireland really is stuck in the past it seems.

Being honest the general rule in Scotland is still want England to lose but outwith pubs it's never that bad.

Especially as so many English people live in Scotland anyway

It depends on where you go.

There are thousands of English people living in Aberdeen due to the oil industry and in the pub I was in last night they made up the majority watching the football.

And for most of those it's all a bit of fun and a joke at our nearest neighbours who are more than capable of looking after themselves (and beating us). It's all a bit panto, and deep down most are happy to see England do well - so long as you don't get too smug about it!

Albeit there are a few who take it a bit too seriously, which spoils the fun somewhat.
