Seriously, when we watch Eurovision, we are not expecting great songs, etc, and when we finish near last, it does not really matter, so long as we were part of the show.

These footballers are getting paid by their clubs, there really is not a benefit for them to do well, apart from personal glory, hence you get someone like Suarez playing a bllnder when 70% fit, because. He is from a poor family, etc, and is doing it to lift his poor nation.

There may be some truth in what you say. Once the Premier League starts in August I doubt most football followers will care or remember much of Brazil World Cup 2014. Sure, some football fans will moan but they'll be more interested in their club side. This is sort of proven by the huge hype over Wayne Rooney. He's never played well, consistently well at the tv stage of the three successive World Cups but he's regarded as a great Man United player. Man U fans love Rooney but I doubt there's many England fans that love Rooney.

I like fun. Fun can be nice. England international team however dont provide many opportunities to experience it though. It doesn't help when you have a nation praying for 11 men to do well but its a little annoying, I wont lie, when the 11 men who represent your country are the only ones who don't give two shits.

You can't compare a national sport to light entertainment. Of course people get emotional when watching their country compete, you see it the world over, not just here.

Nobody really gives a stuff about Eurovision, it's crap and it's good for a laugh, but we won't win for decades because of the politics. And that's fine because.........well, it's crap

But don't expect people to treat important sporting events as a bit of fun because that will never happen.

They earn so much money from their club, that it should mean that the team plays with more freedom and are less scared to fail.

Just because you get paid wads of money from your employer, does not mean you pay all your attention to your employer.
In fact, it often means that you pay less attention towards this (at least for older players), because you would have had the chance to build up a nice financial nest-egg for yourself and are therefore not reliant on your employers to survive financially
