Speedy Repair free of charge repair

Hi everyone I bought a Onkyo TXNR 414 A/V Reciever from Richer Sounds in November 2013 to replace a Pioneer A/V Reciever .In the second week in May 2014 the unit would turn off by its self and no matter what buttons on the remote was pressed it would not turn on again, Pressing the power button on the unit also failed to turn the unit back on again. After around 15 or 20 minutes the unit would spring back into life on its on. So I left it in for a "Speedy free of charge repair " as stated on the Sales docket Card. That was on the 17th of May its now the 20th of June and Richer Sounds are still waiting for the Spare Parts to arrive. I suggested that after waiting so long and with no definite date of the Parts arriving and getting fitted, That I should get a replacement and that was turned down straight away. I then asked for a credit note to be used in store for a percentage of the unit price which also was dismissed. I had to buy another A/V Reciever a Sony STRDN 1040 As I had no other way to listen to my music or even radio stations. I am a long time 20 years plus customer of Richer Sounds and have spent somewhere in the region of £2000 in this Store , And this is the first time I have ever had to take anything back for repair. I have also sent a letter to Julian Richer on this matter and have not heard anything back from him yet. As I under stood it any repairs that take longer than 3 weeks more or less entitiled you to a replacement .Any one have any experience of this and how was it resolved.Cheers Francis

The SOGA states only a 'reasonable time', but this is defined by RETRA (the UK's major trade organisation) as ten working days.

I would suggest you mention they are in breach of the SOGA legislation, and if they won't refund or replace then get in touch with your local Trading Standards.

You should be aware though that RS don't have any service facilities, so simply pass repairs on to a third party. And while RS are liable under the SOGA, the third party isn't affected by it at all.

Hi everyone I finally got sorted out tonight .Between my letter to Julian Richer and this posting on Digital Spy I have been refunded the price of the Onkyo A/V Reciever, The guys in the Belfast store were most apologetic about the time taken to resolve this issue "In fairness to them" A third party were doing the repair. So thanks again Nigel for the info it saved a lot of hassle for all concerned .Cheers Francis
