I've just saw today that only the England vs Costa Rica game will be shown on TV (by ITV), but the Italy vs Uruguay game is not being shown as it's being shown at the same time. Why is this and will this be the same with all the other final group games.

Why can't the BBC show the other game at the same time?

So presumably the BBC's 'other' game will be on BBC3/4 then?

BBC3 doesn't start until 7pm, so I guess any 5pm fixtures tgey have, will only be available, via Red Button and Online

I know we are in England, but really the Uruguay - Italy game should be the main game shown - not the England one.
England are already out and Costa Rica already through.
All to play for in the other game

That would be the most sensible thing to do, and of course most football fans will be tuned into ITV4, but I guess contracts with the FA / Advertisers etc. have been signed that stipulate England games must be shown on the main channel.

They have Thursday's 5pm KO and the other match will be on the red button which is also on channel 981 on Sky

The BBC dodged a bullet here. They had first dibs on Eng v Italy so ITV were able to show the next two Eng games live. There is no way they would relegate the England match to ITV 4. You can guarantee if they did that there would be an uproar about it from some quarters. It's not a totally dead rubber as far as finishing top of the group is concerned. But the Italy/Uru match is the more attractive fixture out of the two. Plus as already said, advertisers have booked their slots to be shown on the main channel during the England games.

I would wager a ruddy great amount they wont be. I am a football fan but i want to see England play as i would suggest a significant amount will.

Remember the vast majority of the audience only watch when England are playing so putting on ITV 4 would be a suicidal decision by ITV. The England game, although pretty meaningless, will still be the most watched game of the 3rd set of fixtures.

Blimey if some people on here ran a commercial business they would be bust by Christmas.

I'll be mostly watching Uruguay v Italy, obviously though England's game will have far more viewers, many won't care that Uruguay-Italy is by far the most important game, which is understandable.

Will be interesting to see what final group games are shown on what channel, I bet the Brazil get's shown on bbc1/itv (not sure what network has it) and the Mexico- Croatia one on bbc3/itv4 but to me that's the bigger game.

I quite agree. Far more to play for in that game and it should make for a great match.

England deserve to be relegated to ITV4.

Its Brazil on ITV (main) I think.

I guess whoever had the potential England knock out game will be most disappointed.

Why in this day and age should it matter if a match is on ITV 1 or ITV 4??
How much harder to press is 103/178, than say 120?? Both require three button presses.

The same goes for matches on BBC 1 or BBC 3 (141/101 or 115 or even 981)???
Again three presses of a button, I don't really understand how it is that much harder to press one set of three digits than another set of three digits.

Would it really matter if the England match was on ITV 4 rather than ITV 1?? It still is as hard to get from one channel to the other.

Very simply because more people have ITV1 than ITV4 plus its a heritage thing, that's why the same show on BBC1 will attract more than if its on BBC2.

Doesn't everyone have ITV4 (in SD at least) now?

I don't know, surely most fans would watch their own club in a completely meaningless end-of-season game before they'd watch any other team?

ITV4 is available to all - so just switch over if you want the Italy game.

Obviously ITV are going to show England - they broadcast loads of meaningless friendlies during the year. And that match is still relevant - Costa Rica need at least a draw to guarantee winning the group.

They could always close down CBBC earlier and show the match at 5pm on BBC 3.

ITV4 is not available to all. It isn't available on Freeview Lite.

What's Freeview Lite (sic)? Why would anyone have that rather than the full freeview? And is LITE an acronym?

It is Freeview for those in light transmission areas. They cannot receive ITV3 and 4 amongst many other channels. Lots of threads about it here on DS

I never get the difference when a show is on BBC 2 or BBC 1, doesn't every one have both of those channels??

So it really shouldn't matter if a show is on either, as it is just as easy to press "141/101", as it is " 102" is it not??

What has heritage got to do with simple button pressing?? Just because BBC 1 used to be the main and only BBC channel doesn't mean that it still is now, it is just as easy to watch BBC 2, as it is BBC 1.

I take your point on Freeview Lite, as I had never heard of it before, (in relation to your ITV point).
