Mike Bassett England Manager
What a prescient film. Except for the amazing escape, it got it about spot on.
I need to watch it again. England winning the world cup. That'll be the Daewoo. |

Mike Basset accidentally calling up Benson & Hedges after writing his team on the back of a cigarette packet - priceless.

The film forsesaw the Algeria game in South Africa. The goalless draw against Egypt in that film is pretty much exactly like that match. The only thing missing was the bird perched on top of the net.

An image of Hodgson in his underwear dancing on a hotel bar is not something I want to have

They even have the once every four years interview with Pele where he is asked if England have a chance, except in the film he gives his honest opinion and not a diplomatic one.

Even though Mike Bassett was fictional, it could easily be a fly-on-the wall documentary of the real thing.

This is so close to the set-up we have now, both in manager and some player's.

Yeah, but having Scotland qualifying showed it couldn't be true. Although quite ironic they took the piss out of Scotland by mentioning Cost Rica.
