Watching it back, the referee literally blew the whistle right on the stroke of 93 minutes and the assistant was already on the pitch when Benzema took his shot.

Let's not let that spoil what was a sensational game of football and a sensational performance from the French; they were all over Switzerland from the point they scored the opening two goals to the time they got their fifth.

Could have been more as well, they had a penalty saved, Benaglio made at least two world class saves and there was that non-goal from Benzema at the end too.

The BBC have a highlights programme the morning after the match on BBC Two.

Well, another pulsating game.

France, at times were simply irresistible. Job done, they switched off at the end but credit to the Swiss for the two late goals.

They might have to extend it with all these goals/non-goals

ITV will probably show the goals again in the build up to the late match at 10:35pm. BBC will have highlights tomorrow morning on BBC2 (not sure what time exactly) .

He was well enjoying that.

I went to the same school as him actually (although I'm only out about two years while Martin is long since gone. He sometimes comes back to present at the school awards ceremony.)
Typical Catholic school because everyone who went there in the 70s sounds a bit like a priest.

Chiles made a cheap jibe about O'Neill having his glasses on and bracing himself whenever he lined up in defensive walls and O'Neill shot back in his usual understated way that he never wore glasses on the pitch, was quite good at defending and he won two European Cups as a result - unlike Vieira and Cannavaro on the panel.
