Very sad. Along with partner Carole King he created some of the best loved and most memorable pop songs of the 60s.

I wonder if we'll get a tribute on BBC4?
Given they've just presented a programme about his wife. He was much overshadowed by Carole King. But he co-wrote most of the songs which made her famous. |

During the early 60's his songs were like a soundtrack of the time.

Goffin also co-wrote several hits in the 80's, mainly working with composer Michael Masser with Goffin being the lyricist, such as:
Tonight I celebrate my love for you (Roberta Flack & Peabo Bryson) Miss you like crazy (Natalie Cole) Saving all my love for you (Whitney Houston) Theme from Mahogany (do you know where you're going to) (Diana Ross) |

An ever-present memory when the names Goffin/King come up was the way Jimmy Young used to regularly introduce this song of theirs on the radio, with these words.
