Very sad. Along with partner Carole King he created some of the best loved and most memorable pop songs of the 60s.

I wonder if we'll get a tribute on BBC4?
Given they've just presented a programme about his wife.
He was much overshadowed by Carole King.
But he co-wrote most of the songs which made her famous.

During the early 60's his songs were like a soundtrack of the time.
A talented man,
RIP

Goffin also co-wrote several hits in the 80's, mainly working with composer Michael Masser with Goffin being the lyricist, such as:

Tonight I celebrate my love for you (Roberta Flack & Peabo Bryson)
Miss you like crazy (Natalie Cole)
Saving all my love for you (Whitney Houston)
Theme from Mahogany (do you know where you're going to) (Diana Ross)

An ever-present memory when the names Goffin/King come up was the way Jimmy Young used to regularly introduce this song of theirs on the radio, with these words.

"Here is the weather report."

Hardly surprising considering Carole King went on to become a performer as well as a songwriter, while GG remained in the background. Having said that I think with a few exceptions the Goffin/King team turned out better and more memorable songs than CK did on her own. Whatever, he was n first rate lyricist like his contemporary Hal David (David/Bacharach)
