The sound on my flat screen LG TV is awful. Can I improve it in any way, but not too expensive? Many thanks

A cheap soundbar perhaps...

All modern panel displays have awful sound and usually the thinner they are then the worse the sound for obvious reasons.

As Peter suggested a cheap soundbar or if you can connect then a pair of computer speakers would also work. You would need to be aware as to how to control the volume on an external device.

Do you still have something like a music centre?

I've got a vintage hifi system, with big Goodmans speakers, which I use for vinyl, cassettes and my jukebox wallboxes/adapter/iPods system.

With an auto selector, I can also route the audio through it, from our newish Panasonic Viera TV, (which has rubbish speakers), Humax PVR, CD/DVD and VHS recorder.

The difference in the quality of the audio is fantastic. These selectors are quite cheap.

We still have a Philips Midi system which must be 10 years old now. But it has an integral DVD player. But it's main feature is it's 50w per channel from two decent sized deep speakers. That is hitched up to our 39" flat screen and does the job great. 50w per channel is more than enough for the average sized living room.

Thanks so much for all your replies. I don't have a music centre any more unfortunately, it had really good sound, actually! Followed the link to the soundbar and it seems like just the job. Is it easy to install? Not too handy physically

You'll need an Optical Digital Out (TOSLink) socket on your LG TV to connect the soundbar like this one on Amazon. Note this is a 1M cable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/TOSLink-Opti...=toslink+cable

Assuming you have a TV with an earphone socket?, then simply plug a pair of amplified PC speakers in to that, it will dramatically improve the sound quality at little or no cost and effort (assuming you have a pair 'knocking about' as many have).
