FIFA rankings have little to do in a tournament, otherwise every 4 years we could just save the money on the WC and tell the top 4 teams to play themselves. We just played badly, and as much as we can blame the manger for the tactics, these players shouldn't need coaching on how to pass properly, how to defend and how to score goals.

Somethings is very amiss in English football, when teams like Ghana, Cost Rica, Chile, USA, Iran are doing as well or better against teams who on paper are so far ahead it's not worth mentioning. Teams like Holland and France who are ranked several places lower than us are beating the very top teams, not just 1-0 but by several goals.

I am sure that we a fast approaching Championship and 1st div players for England selection. The Premier League will have no home grown players.

Yet a Nottingham Forest defender is good enough to play central defence alongside a Cardiff midfielder for the team (Chile) which beat the reigning world champions and have won the last 3 major tournaments. Of course they would never have got in the "better" England team.

Now that Ashley Cole has retired I completely disagree with this. Baines is a defensive liability along with Johnson on the other side, this is exacerbated by the gun ho approach further up the field with no decent defensive midfielder.

I'm sure there will be full backs in the Championship that can defend better than those two, it's more about taking up the correct defensive position than the ball playing ability.

What England need to do is stop picking players cause of who they play for and play star names out of position just to get them in the team. They should always pick the best and most in-form player for the position and if that means a star name gets dropped then so be it if someone else is playing better.

The club a player plays for shouldn't have a bearing on being picked either - if anything someone who is outstanding or scores lots of goals in a lesser team is more impressive than doing it in a big team surrounded by other top players helping eg. scoring 15-20 goals for Norwich, Swansea, Stoke etc is much more impressive than 20-25 for Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal etc
