I agree with the people who said that he has been vastly over hyped by the media and this simply isn't fair to him.
Like many of 'The Golden Generation' they had been made out to be virtual supermen, who were 'world class'. This is the media saying this, not them.
He's a great player for the clubs he's played for, and it's not his fault that he didn't live up to the expectations people invested in him.

So no complaints from me. England as a team just aren't good enough yet. You have to accept that and move on.”

The media hype about him, and equally about his wife which he is associated with whether he wants to be or not, are what have caused half of this problem with him. I don't think he didn't try but - and shoot me down in flames - if he packed in smoking he would get less stick.

I work for myself, so if I have a bad day, I lose my clients, unlike the over paid so called superstars, who just have to stroll around a pitch for 90mins, not bothering.

Against Uruguay Rooney was inches away from a hat trick. He got himself into great positions and was a little bit unlucky.

England need a scapegoat and he has been chosen.

The English fans and their media need to realise that their behaviour in the likes of this has an adverse reaction on their national team.”

Hat-trick, but it didn't happen, he missed easy goals, not getting shots on target, and the old saying a miss is as good as a mile.

That why he so unfit, and can't run and was never a world class player.

You are a sad man, all you do is pick away at Wayne Rooney all the time.

Stop being jealous because you were overlooked by Hodgson Nigel.

You really don't know anything about football do you? Rooney is one of the fittest players around, very few players cover as much ground as him during a game so clearly neither is an issue. He's also consistently near the top, if not top, of the goals and assists standings. He also does a lot of work for charity, but then I'd imagine you would criticise him even if he managed to save a family of four from a burning building.

The fact that you constantly go on about Rooney alone shows how good a player he is. Pep Guardiola says so, but what does he know?

Cannot win can they?

If nothing was said the media would accuse the players of just ignoring the fans and not caring.

Say something and its all made out to be excuses or described as all too late.

Rooney doesn't care yet he apparently covered the most distance in the last game. Was man marked the whole game yet was still England's most influential player.

I just don't get why he gets criticised for not being world class? Does anyone else get this weird criticism aimed at them, in any other team Rooney would be praised as an excellent player yet in England people are mad that he isn't as good as Ronaldo.

It's like people in Argentina saying Messi is shite and overrated because he isn't as good as Maradona. Bizarre.

Completely agree, it's really odd if you put any thought into it, based purely on him being judged as a player alone the criticism makes no sense.

Seems like an easy option. He donate's money to charity or the FA and can then feel good about himself?

So if Peter Sutcliff donate's to Children In Need then all is forgiven?
