Oh good, do you promise.

Maybe that is sometimes an issue - we get a bit cocky and think too much of ourselves at times.

As for the article in question - bet Redknapp was more than happy to let them not go on International duty.”

If he said that he's a blinkered idiot.

Just look at any player who's pulled out of an England friendly in the last few years with a mysterious injury which has miraculously cleared up in time for their next match. There's your answer.

Getting back to the thead:

Players who were in and around the England squad during Redknapp's Tottenham reign:

Huddlestone
Walker
Crouch
Defoe
Dawson
Bent
Bentley
Lennon
Jenas
King
Woodgate
Parker

Bentley already has form for refusing to play for the U21's, but hard to guess with the others

There was a good discussion on this on 5 live before the Portugal game last night
Guess it's on i-player
Neil Lennon said he regularly agreed with players that they needn't join up for friendlies but it never happened with qualifying/tournament games
Lawro also said the same thing happened at Liverpool back in the day for international friendlies
Players were also worried that if they got back late /injured , they might lose their place in the team
Worth listening to

I wouldn't like to speculate on names. Speculation is wrong and evil and immoral and indecent.

On an unrelated point, I was just listening to King Crimson and Scott Walker there.

It's supposed to be an honour but miss a penalty or something and become an overnight laughing stock ... get sent off during a crucial game and have your face made into a dartboard by the tabloids. Sorry, but that's nonsense. Most if not ALL foreign media hunt down their own footballers if they don't perform or even if they perform but miss a crucial penalty... look at Roberto Baggio and there are countless similar examples.

Playing for your country is an honour and if players can't see that, it's quite shameful really.

As for praise, look how excited everyone was after the Italy game and praised them to high heaven despite defeat. It's just very difficult to praise a team who play as if it's a chore and they can't wait to go home.

It's not just England. How many international friendlies did Giggs miss over the years? He always seemed to pick up a groin strain which miraculous fixed itself before the next Man Utd game.

Harry just trying to get some attention for himself as always it seems.

This made me laugh.

Have you seen Nani, Ashley Young or Antonio Valencia 'play', in the last 2 years?

He completely failed to take into account that players might struggle for some clubs but play differently, to a better standard, for their country. Judging them on their club alone is totally wrong and naive.

We all know Aaron Lennon was one. I'm going for Jenas and probably Ledley King as the other two.

The players underlined have all had previous in terms of commitment and attitude issues.

The players in bold have all had a tough time keeping fit in their careers and probably couldn't handle 3 games in a week, the England one being some pointless friendly.

first, and probably most important, of all, Harry Redknapp is a massive massive bell-end whose comments on English players never seem to be based on any sort of reality. in 2010 the day before the game against Germany, he was at it again talking about how none of the German players would get into the England team, and look how that turned out.

the fact that Rooney is still being considered world-class is yet another example of how the English just can't help but overrate their players. he's clearly below the level of the very best, and the majority of the time he's also below the next best too. that doesn't equate to world-class to me.

Once again Mr Rent a Quote is getting his name in the papers.

The guy lives is a very strange version of reality and should be taken as seriously as Uri Geller is and David Icke is when it comes to talking to the media.

Yes, makes sense that these were probably mid-week away frendlies. There has always been a question around the value of England friendlies during a Premiership season. I recall certain managers of big clubs not only Spurs, making excuses for their players being unavailable for England selection. It's quite easy to magic a convenient knock that is suddenly better by the next Premiership game.

And people wanted this clown as the England manager. He would have been all about supposed "passion and pride in the shirt" and all this bollocks which would translate into more hoofball and kick and rush. Can you imagine the arrogance of Harry thinking that the English players were all so much better than all the German, Italian, Uruguayan players etc.?

This is why the media love him. Telling us that some players wanted to miss an international match is akin to telling us that Dolly Parton sleeps on her back. We know of the many miraculous recoveries some players have made, but the PL is now all important. Also, in the past 10 yrs or so, caps have been handed out like Smarties. It's not that special for many players. But HR will always be on hand to act like a tart looking for a lay.

The problem is many fans don't give a damn about England. If we, as supporters, can't back England to the hilt then why would the players? When the question is asked 'would you prefer club or country to be successful' the answer tends to be a definitive 'club'. Many fans wouldn't care if the entire starting XI of their club sides was foreign as long as they won. People only truly care about international football once every two years and then moan when the lack of quality due to the approach by the clubs is clear for all to see.

Redknapp will never reveal the players' names -- he could end up getting sued and taken to court (again).

He's an idiot for revealing this, but shouldn't compound his error by doing what Gerrard is asking him to.

The FA should have always insisted on their own medical team assessing players fitness, unfortunately they never did, maybe because even they knew the players were avoiding games?

Being picked to play for England can only enhance a players profile in all kinds of lucrative ways - even if they couldn't care less about the glory of it and greed is their only objective.

Of course, it would be interesting to know which players are 'guilty' so to speak - but that isn't going to happen is it? That said, it is an interesting revelation and I suppose Harry just thought he was being honest. But all in that list of players are now under suspicion so not really that good for them.

On Rooney, I read somewhere that Lionel Messi thought Rooney was 'awesome - you could see the fire in his eyes'. Not bad coming from Messi if true.

How does effectively giving Hodgson an excuse make him bitter?
