Sorry, but that's nonsense. Most if not ALL foreign media hunt down their own footballers if they don't perform or even if they perform but miss a crucial penalty... look at Roberto Baggio and there are countless similar examples.

first, and probably most important, of all, Harry Redknapp is a massive massive bell-end whose comments on English players never seem to be based on any sort of reality. in 2010 the day before the game against Germany, he was at it again talking about how none of the German players would get into the England team, and look how that turned out.

the fact that Rooney is still being considered world-class is yet another example of how the English just can't help but overrate their players. he's clearly below the level of the very best, and the majority of the time he's also below the next best too. that doesn't equate to world-class to me.

Yes, makes sense that these were probably mid-week away frendlies. There has always been a question around the value of England friendlies during a Premiership season. I recall certain managers of big clubs not only Spurs, making excuses for their players being unavailable for England selection. It's quite easy to magic a convenient knock that is suddenly better by the next Premiership game.

And people wanted this clown as the England manager. He would have been all about supposed "passion and pride in the shirt" and all this bollocks which would translate into more hoofball and kick and rush. Can you imagine the arrogance of Harry thinking that the English players were all so much better than all the German, Italian, Uruguayan players etc.?

This is why the media love him. Telling us that some players wanted to miss an international match is akin to telling us that Dolly Parton sleeps on her back. We know of the many miraculous recoveries some players have made, but the PL is now all important. Also, in the past 10 yrs or so, caps have been handed out like Smarties. It's not that special for many players. But HR will always be on hand to act like a tart looking for a lay.

The problem is many fans don't give a damn about England. If we, as supporters, can't back England to the hilt then why would the players? When the question is asked 'would you prefer club or country to be successful' the answer tends to be a definitive 'club'. Many fans wouldn't care if the entire starting XI of their club sides was foreign as long as they won. People only truly care about international football once every two years and then moan when the lack of quality due to the approach by the clubs is clear for all to see.
