Firstly, apart from when Itv hace a table on the beach, it really does feel like this could be anywhere. The BBC unusually have been pretty poor in letting us viewers "feel like we are there", just all blank studio based.

Secondly, really wanted drums, etc in the stadium. I know fifa have had some kind of clampdown because of the vuvuzelas monstrosity, but drums can be great.

Thirdly, real lack of bikinis in the crowd

Maybe seeing the real side of some of Brazil may not be too enthralling, I think there have been limitations due to some of the protests.

Banning those noisy drums and blowy things has been great, the noise from the crowd in some of the better matches has been great...you can hear the atmosphere so to speak.

Men in Bikinis is not a good look, I don't want to see some hairy Brazilian Fan in something too skimpy

i think FIFA and the broadcasters are wary of the political situation in the country and the prevalence of protests, hence the broadcasts from predictable environments such as studio or training camp.
Also, there are myriad obvious tropes to avoid: hot carnival girls in bikinis, capoeristas, samba rhythms, boys and girls from Ipanema...etc

In the words of Garland Green : "Pick your cliche".

Even the opening ceremony music was more New York than Rio. They should have had an Ivete Sangalo concert
