Do you find it hard supporting a really unpopular housemate on here?

I think sometimes it can be.

It makes all the difference in the world if you have a group, even a small one, who agree with you. So when Shabby was really being vilified in BB11 there was a fantastic, funny, intelligent group of people on her appreciation thread I could hide out with. Similarly with Linda Nolan in the last CBB - she didn't have an AT, but there were some lovely people willing to swim against the tide.

Defending Lisa in BB10 - she wasn't a favourite but I thought she was quite all right compared with a lot of them - was fantastically draining and depressing. Sometimes I seemed to be the only one not swept along in a tide of hate, far out of proportion to anything she had actually said or done. I used to really dread resuming the fight sometimes, but was desperate to get some recognition that she was nothing like the picture being painted.

I really admire people who stand out from the crowd, even when I don't agree with them. I used to find Tracey Barnard's one faithful fan rather adorable, and the same with Jay's sweetly unflappable fan in BB12. Even Caroline's fans in BB13 - one of them was incredibly obnoxious, but generally I admired them for sticking to their guns when they were in such a minority.

I suppose it would be, I do however usually have the same favourite as the majority on here. Except this year I am not feeling the Kim love on DS.

That could be tricky at times, especially when she would keeping putting her foot in it

The hardest thing can be the terrible points made by people who agree with you!

Trying to think how often it's happened, not that often. I liked Josie. I liked Gina (in the live feed at night only). Um. Yeah I had no problem with Lisa BB10 either.

Not really Wonkey ,but then again i've got a pretty thick skin

I pretty much ended up as the last man Standing Sticking up for JohnJames on here(the main board) and the WHATM Thread in BB11 Similarly with Jay too

I'm a rather lone voice in not minding Helen either this year

On the flip side, I found it hard not being a Gina fan last year.

Nope, people on here were never a fan of Sam, i found it pretty easy to support him.

Lol. I would just like to make it clear that you were never obnoxious.

Respect. Both John James and Josie (but especially John James) are absurdly vilified on here. I thought he was a bit of a strange cookie, but it was noticeable that his fellow housemates seemed to like him pretty well, and after all, they had to live with him.

I rarely seem to support someone who's really popular on here and a couple of times recently my favourites have been extremely unpopular (Shabby,Hazel) - but I don't really find it difficult. I defend them in threads but ultimately I don't care that much about trying to change people's opinions so don't get involved long debates because it's normally pointless. I guess I'm just lazy.....

Appreciation threads can be nice in that situation, but most of them don't seem to take off like they used to

I find it very difficult supporting an unpopular house mate. Even more difficult NOT supporting the DS chosen one. Aaron for example. I did not like him at all and that proved difficult. I supported Jay by default lol. Also Gina I didn't like at all , I supported Hazel.
Nearly forgot Noreen that was very unpopular lol. Could not stand Marcus ewww. So yes I agree with you. I liked Lisa btw.

As a supporter of Linda Nolan I found this forum tough going. I wasn't even a supporter as such, I just thought she was getting a rough deal by the great majority of people on here. Call it a sympathy vote then. In any case observing the forum from the unpopular side of the fence wasn't very pleasant at all. Quite lonely at times too, as the few other people being nice about her seemed to all get banned, presumably due to a lot of "report" button hits from Jim's army of fans. To be honest I was glad when she was eventually evicted so I no longer had to keep defending her but even then, for some, her being evicted wasn't enough and the hate threads/posts kept on coming, each met by the same congratulatory back patting and endorsement from those on the other side.

The whole experience put me off wanting to support housemates for the remainder of the series, and even in this current series I have struggled to get into my normal mode of defending housemates I like. But then again that could just be because these housemates are all a bit crap.

I can't say I understood all of the Linda hate on here. She was a misery but hardly the nastiest hm I have seen.

I don't tend to have a favourite that I support through thick and thin. My opinion on each HM changes as we get to know them. I'm never in tune with the forum majority though, I'm contrary like that.

I get more frustrated by people insisting you only have an opinion because you must be a fan of X. IE, I can think Daley was an abusive ass without thinking Hazel was the Virgin Mary incarnate, but, if I mentioned Daley was an abusive ass, immediately, the reply would be "you Hazel fans all ganging up again."

I stuck up for Louise on here an awful lot when people's frustration with her (still being there) resulted in them exaggerating every little thing she did to make it seem bad. She was a thoroughly nice HM who was always upbeat and only ever spoke in a nice complimentary way to the other HMs. Some of the things she was accused of were ridiculous and the repetitive posts were tedious. Yet she was totally harmless.

And pretty much ditto for Sam last year.

The forums, like live feed were all part of the big brother experience. I can remember staying up till 3/ 4 in the moring debating wether Michelle and stu (bb5) really liked each other or if Grace (bb7) was the devil incarnate. I usually pick a girl and a boy I follow for the whole series and try to stick up for them when I can, the worse it ever got for me was BB9, I really liked Jen (there had to be 1) and Stu. Its funny when I look back now, But its what made be love BB. I have only liked/backed the winner 3 times so I tend to pick the also rans or runners up.
The trick is not to take it personally, and not to get to involved. I look forward to many more BB's, just wish they see how much potential BB could have with Live Feed back.

I don't at all. I support whoever I support, I won't be made to feel my views are inadequate in any way. Although most of the time, my opinion is often that of the majority.

I did indeed give Linda a very rough time on this forum, so I see where you're coming from. I admired those that stuck by Linda, and argued their opinions with conviction and valid reasoning. However, on a number of occasions I had to endure quite nasty personal attacks from a very vocal Linda sympathising minority. From what I experienced, a few (by no means all) Linda supporters seemed to be more hellbent on hurling abuse at me, rather than actually stating why they supported Linda - and they felt their behaviour was justified simply because they were in the minority.

Iv'e watched BB from the start but only joined here last year.I supported Dexter and Gina then but would have felt quite happy if I had been in the minority.I guess I have no problem with just saying what I think and admitting when I get it wrong but I can see why people would find it rather intimidating on here to stand by a less then popular housemate.I liked John James,Sam Pepper and Linda Nolan and no idea how Aaron and Faye were seen on here but I would have stuck by them both all the way through as I liked them.

The hate for Linda Nolan on here last CBB was rather overwhelming!I can't for one second see what she did that was really all that bad other then daring to have a problem with Darling Jim!

I find It can be tough coming on here when your fav is hated by the forum because i get ridiculously attached to my favs. So far i have been lucky this year but i know it could easily change quickly.

I think that's partly why I don't post so much as I spent a lot of time in the appreciation threads for Marcus, Shabby, Gerry, but when there aren't many people in them (Wolfy, Seany) its very disheartening and you feel alone and out of touch with the forum

I generally end up supporting one of the less-loved housemates. For me, i kind of enjoy the creative aspect of thinking of different ways to answer: "Yeah--but WHY do you like {whoever}" for the umpteenth time.

I don#t find supporting someone disliked hard, to be fair what I find more not necessarily hard but disconcerting is the flipside and not liking someone who seem to be able to do no wrong on this forum.

Case in point for me was last year I disliked the series a lot and I do not now or then find any real reason to like Dexter or Gina. Dexter was a game player who was very bad at it (Was caught out almost immediatly) If you want good game players look at the likes of Nasty Nick or Slick Vic.

Gina was an ego centric self obsessed bully (Not too different from qualities of Steven/Helen this year). While Hazel gave as good as she got some of the actual comments that came out of Gina's mouth were just beyond idiotic and vile and this forum has called for some to be ejected for much less in the past.

There was however once or twice when I said I didn't rate them and was mocked. If I wrote a detailed explaination of why I thought they were in the wrong with something I was simply met with the likes of "QUEEN GINA FTW" (Which is the most pointless reply to anything in this forum).

I find them are usually the more difficult ones to deal with if you dislike someone genuinely loved by most on this forum.

Of course not every D/G fan was like that and some backed it up with logical discussion just not everyone did
