I've been a subscriber for a couple of months and, aside of 'House Of Cards', we've not found anything else we want to watch. I've decided to cancel and go with the PAYG services such as Amazon and Blinkbox. As a friend said, "Netflix is like a 1980s video shop - or, rather, a 1980s straight-to-video shop!"

I understand where you're coming from. It's partly due to Sky's stranglehold on the main movie studios that Netflix (and Amazon) don't get any up to date new content.
Have you thought about one of the DNS services that allow you to access Netflix around the world though ?.
There's a lot of different (and newer) content on various versions of the site in various countries.

I have thought about it, yes, and thanks, but it's too much effort for too little return - for us, at any rate. We watch a lot of broadcast TV and we have Sky, so it's only on the odd occasion when we need to stream a movie. We'll stick with the PAYG services.
There's more content on Netflix that I want to watch than I will ever have spare time to watch, especially with a region-unblocker.
Each to their own though.

DItto, I haven't even bothered getting an unblocker yet and have enough to watch on there to keep my busy for months. I really couldn't disagree with the OP more.
While i disagree with the OP about Netflix UK being a 80`s video shop i do have to say that Netflix need to pull their finger out & get better content added to the service. With what`s been added for the last few months has been very poor & really should do better. Come on Netflix it`s time to step up your game.

That's fair enough, but if you change your mind, someone on DS recommended a service called "Ad-Free Time"

It costs around £1.30 a month and once you've set up your router, you can change your regions with a smartphone app - no messing around.
The reason I'm mentioning that one specifically is because of the price - it's cheap enough to give it a punt if you wanted to at least try it. I have a year's subscription to Netflix myself but I don't use it all that much anyway and £1.30 a month seemed like a no brainer really.

Personally I think they do well considering. If Sky hold the rights a lot of exclusive content what more can Netflix do?
I assume as it's the Summer (lol) months Netflix does get a bit slow with new content, come September it should pick up again.

That is the problem I often have. There are so many TV shows and films I want to watch but don't have the time. Netflix is certainly better value than Sky.

Yes i know Sky have a tight hold on studios when it`s comes to content. Netflix should still be doing much better. Just look what Amazon are adding to their prime service. Netflix UK should be adding much as Amazon are doing.

If you want (some) brand new films to stream at home for a premium that's fine, and I'd agree with you.However, if you're into quality TV series which it seems you are with HOC, there's a whole lot more of those on the Netflix regions.
Film wise for *£9 a month there's a fair amount of recent stuff on the Netflix *regions* that I'd never get around to seeing at the cinema, as well as some older films I either missed or go back to that I enjoy.
PS: I hope you at least managed to see Breaking Bad, or Hannibal in your 2 month subsciption ?

I actually have both and Amazon prime has less content. You do also tend to find that content doesn't stay on there as long and expires quicker than on Netflix. Also you are stuck with just the UK version on Amazon if you only have a UK account unlike Netflix.

I've actually cancelled Amazon prime, i even got the USA version at the moment but i won't be continuing with it.
For what i watch Netflix is the better option.

I`m mostly talking about TV shows that are on prime but isn`t on Netflix UK. Like Community, The big C, Mad Men, Deadwood, & all 4 seasons of KyleXY instead of 2.

If Prime has the content you want to watch, the logical thing would be to subscribe to that rather than complaining that Netflix doesn't offer the specific content you are wanting to watch.

I have Ad-freetime. it is actually only £1.19 per month. Well worth a go for a month to see what you think of the other Netflix regions. I have had Netflix for nearly two years and had Unblock for 18 months then just Uk only for two months. I briefly went back to Unblock then heard about Ad-freetime in April and have been using that since. In recent weeks I have seen the Fargo series on Netherlands with no ads and saw the final episode four days ahead of UK transmission. Head over to Brazil and you will find Wolf of Wall Street which is only just out on dvd here. Films from the last year or so like The Heat, Blue jasmine, Internship, World War Z, The Call, Runner Runner, Star tek Into Darkness, Turbo, Pain And Gain, Olympus Has Fallen and The host are all on Netflix somewhere. Most of those are at Sky Movies stage here. Some have yet to reach Sky Movies. All are on Netflix for £7.20 per month. Not bad for a service like an 80's video shop!

I disagree with this but each to their own.
I mainly keep Netflix for the TV shows and they do have some great shows. I've watched House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Breaking Bad, Prison Break, Gossip Girl, Dexter and I've just started watching Sons of Anarchy and Arrested Development, so for me its great value for money, But i can understand where you come from in regards to the film content, because it is really quite poor.
The thing is, with the exception of Netflix original product, I saw all those shows - at least, the ones that interest me - when they were broadcast and have no interest in seeing them again. The only DVDs I buy, for example, are music ones which can bear several viewings, as I have very little interest in seeing something more than once. Breaking Bad, Dexter etc. are brilliant - but once is enough!

Personally I would advise people to use anyone but adfreetime due to its automatic blocking of ads. I know some ads can be annoying but using any service that blocks all ads automatically isn't good. Most sites only make money due to ads and the more people block ads the harder it gets for these sites to keep running.
For annoying ads its better to use something like the Adblock browser plugin set fully on manual and then block only sites where ads become annoying. And while doing so contacting the sites to let them know why your blocking the ads.
Or at the very least if you block them all with any site you visit regularly (atleast once a week or more) people should look into ways to send a monetary contribution to them (Donation or if they sell items buying something) .

Some sites now like CBS are asking you to disable your ad blocker or you can't watch the show.

That's all I watch really , I'm seriously considering cancelling it myself.
