Hello,

I've just acquired one of these little boxes... I like it! I'm about to purchase a small external drive to go with it.
Its not clear to me whether it will power a USB drive as well or will the drive need an external power source.

does anyone have any experience / knowledge about this model that can maybe point me in the right direction?

TIA

For the benefit of others reaching this page my experience is that not all USB drives will work satisfactorily. The first one I used - or the HB1000s itself was not happy with an ex-PC drive installed in a USB caddy. The HB1000s kept on losing the software key that prevents the drive being paired or used with any other device.
Since moving to a new USB3 1Tb 2.5" HDD and using a different HB1000s all is now fine.
NB not only did the HDD pairing come apart but the keys were corrupted and those recording I had made were inaccessible. Either this or the HB1000s itself also lost the IP address. Thus if you have any trouble change the HDD first.
