I thought that during the World Cup we would just see our Soaps moved to different times, but it seems that not only are there some time changes but we seem to be missing episodes of our weekly soaps (here I am talking about Emmerdale & Corrie as these are the ones I watch, though I belive the same applies to Eastenders).
Ok, there may need to be a change to schedules during something like the World Cup 2014, but I don't see why we should miss our Soaps altogther and there be days in between episodes.
Anyone else agree?

Live events are more important than soaps that can be watched at any time. It's not just the world cup, Wimbledon has started today, and nothing is more important than that.

I love my soaps. But it's nice to get a breather from them from time to time. I'll enjoy watching Emmerdale on Thursday - after a five-day break, for a start!

Same here. They're all on far too often anyway. It's refreshing to have a little break every once in a while. Makes you actually look forward to the episodes, for a change.

I like soaps (some of them anyway) and don't like sports of any kind. However I'm not bothered about soap schedules being changed for major sporting events and don't understand the fuss some people make about it.

I am not making a "Fuss", I just don't like episodes being cut out for other things.

I didn't mention your name - I was talking in general terms as I've seen several people complaining about the same thing recently. But if the cap fits ......

I assume you're very young. When you grow up hopefully you'll learn that we can't always have things the way we like them.

Hey !, only 717 days until Euro 2016. Then you can do all you whining over what time the soaps start, again !

I agree, it's disgusting that soaps are on air during World Cup month.

I've seen them crammed here, there and everywhere in the schedule this past fortnight, all clambering for our attention.
An hour special here, a split double offering of Emmerdale there.
It's a bloody outrage.
I've rarely been so angry or upset.

It's about time soaps and the like started showing footy a bit of respect.
They have no business being on at all when there's football to be played.

Those prime slots in between the live games that the soaps are greedily hogging could be used to host extra programmes, featuring Alan Hansen talking about the games, perhaps with Martin O'Neill as his bespectacled sidekick.
Instead we get a crying girl letting balloons off for someone she only met last week.

I tried to explain all this to my old mam earlier, absolutely fuming she is about "this football malarkey" playing havoc with her soaps.
Selfish woman.

I'm a big football fan so I have to admit that the changes haven't really bothered me much, it's just bothersome that the changes have affected Eastenders viewing figures so strongly but I guess it's to be expected during the World Cup season.

One plus from an Eastenders viewpoint is that it's left an opening for some hour long episodes, the first of which I really enjoyed last night. An hour long Eastenders always feels like a big treat to me and last night was no different. Plus now England are out of the World Cup so early I'd like to hope that some viewers will come back to Eastenders!

This gets blown out of proportion every time a major sporting event is on. The World Cup happens once every four years and takes up a very short amount of time in the year, and it's something that brings countries together, which can't be called a bad thing. Soaps are on all year round, every year.

A brilliant piece of satire, spoilt by the fact I've never heard of these people. Are they fictional? Maybe it would have worked better with tom finney and stanley matthews.

Some of us don't like football, we are loyal to our soaps that we watch every week. Eastenders is the only show I watch regularly these days, it's my time to escape the real world. So yes it can be annoying that it's moved to a different time slot, while it may not be the end of the world and while I do have bigger problems in life and while it's not something that hugely affects me in the long run I do still think it unfair.

For all die-hard fans of the soaps, why don't the channels move them to BBC 2/ITV 2 respectively? Makes sense to me. But for some reason they HAVE to be on mainstream TV - or nothing! No-one knows how to switch channels??

But you aren't actually missing out on anything or being cheated out of episodes right? I can't speak for Corrie/Emmerdale/Hollyoaks but am I right in thinking the EE makes up for nights without episodes with hour long ones like last night? So it's not really a big deal at all.

It will be over in a fortnight and your religious routine will be back to normal.

It's political correctness gone mad. Can't even stick some niche Japanese pornography on the big television at 7pm any more without one of the do-gooder brigade saying it should be Football or Soaps instead. Not surprising given the police state we've come to tolerate in this country.

Why can't the football be moved to ITV 2 or one of the gazillion sport channels instead of taking up viewing on the main chanels? Not everyone wants to watch a bunch of overpayed prats poncing around on a patch of grass.
