I've had an iPhone 5S since March. I quickly discovered that just having one charger wasn't enough, so I left my genuine iPhone USB charger and plug on my desk to use at work....and purchased a spare cable from Phones4U for home (to use with another genuine iPhone plug).

I've been using both successfully daily since then, for both charging and laptop sync.

However, suddenly my iPhone has decided it wont charge using the non-original Apple cable. "This cable or accessory is not certified or may not work reliable with this iPhone" is displayed on screen.

I've tried three or four spare other iPhone cables and these do not work either - however, my next door neighbours Genuine Apple one does.

Why has my phone decided to suddenly start doing this....and more importantly does anyone know how it can be rectified? I have 1% battery left and I'm about ready to collapse!!

There was someone on the Apple forum with exactly the same problem as you and a reboot cured it.

Have a read here as well

I've had this problem with "ebay cables".

They will charge, but at a slower rate. iPhone / iPad chargers are rated at 11 watts where standard USB are rated for 5 Watts which is the standard from a typical PC / Laptop / other phone charger unit.

If the iPhone / iPad gives the error not rated its basically saying its reverting to 5W charging.

It may not register on screen as charging, but leave it connected overnight and you will wake up to a 100% charge.
