Whatever happens to Suarez Uruguay have come out winners, as I think it's highly unlikely they would have scored if not for that incident.
It's also helped cover up Italy going out in the First Round for the second World Cup running. Suarez deserves a lengthy ban but its silly for people to talk about Uruguay being thrown out. In terms of affecting the result and progression to the next round his handball against Ghana in the last WC had a far bigger impact and Uruguay didn't get disqualified for that (when they should have IMO), so no reason to believe they should be for this. |

The biting incident and Uruguay's goal were completely unrelated. There's no reason to believe that Uruguay wouldn't have scored anyway.

Ghana only have themselves to blame for not winning that game, first they missed the penalty, then they failed to score against 10 men in extra time before finally losing the penalty shoot out.
Ghana were unfairly cheated out of being the first African team to make the semi-finals. |

The handball and penalty were in the last minute of EXTRA TIME. The penalty they missed was effectively the last kick of the game, and Ghana had no chance to come back against ten men. Suarez being sent off had no negative impact on Uruguay's chances other than him being inelligible to take a penalty in the shoot out.

Sad way for the great Pirlo to bow out of the World Cup, still, a Winners medal in 2006 and a Runners Up medal at Euro 2012 is more than most players will ever have, unless they are Spanish of course.

I agree with your post. The incidents weren't connected. Suarez should be banned from this world cup and after the tournament FIFA should have a proper investigation/tribunal and give him a lengthy ban. Not the rest of Uruguays squad that Suarez did something monumentally stupid, although it's bad form of Ramirez to try to hide the bite marks and the comments from the manager and the captain defending Suarez. |

Totally disagree. I don't see how it's any different than if someone brought down a Ghana player through on goal in the last minute and was sent off. It's not cheating, it's a foul and a red card. Ghana had the opportunity to win but missed the penalty.
An outfield player deliberately stopping the ball with his hand to deny a goal is on a whole different level. |

I think it's cheating. Trying to tackle a player and mistiming it is unfortunate, or even possibly stupid by the player who does it.

I still disagree. You make it sound like he had time to contemplate what he was going to do. It wasn't a conscious decision to cheat or even to handle it. Just an instinctive reaction.
One is to deliberately handball to deny a goal. Another is biting people. |
