Because he's very good at scoring freekicks

For the same reason Ronaldo does for Real Madrid, he's the best at delivering the crosses in.

That to.

Decent effort, would have shown the keeper up though if it went in.

From 40 yards plus?

Still makes no sense to me, how hard is it to deliver a dead ball in to a penalty area. It's a waste IMO, much like with Ronaldo.

Seemingly quite hard given how most of the free-kicks in this World Cup have either hit the first man or gone sailing over everybody's head.

Henry used to do it for Arsenal too.

This game is bloody awful. Neither team has strung more than four passes together at any point, every twenty seconds play is stopped. I've given up already Zzzzzz

If someone is so much better at it than everyone else, and especially when they have targets such as Godin to aim for, that are known to create chances from free kicks then it makes sense.

Didn't Henry take corners, too?

It's crazy. No one else in the team/squad is capable of putting a dead ball in to the opposition penalty box that you have to essentially sacrifice your most dangerous player to do it. Insane.

I get what you're saying and maybe it's just me but I would rather have my most prolific striker in the box awaiting free-kicks rather than be the one taking them. Fair enough they are the ones to take them when its a crack at goal but not when the ball is 40+ yards away.

Utterly stupid from Balotelli.

Yes, it has been the one stand-out disappointment in an enthralling World Cup. The quality of free-kicks has been poor.

Balotelli suspended should Italy progress.

No thanks, that's why I chose this game. Silly me hadn't realised Italy haven't changed since the 1960s and are still masters at boring the world.

Been on the drink have you or are you another one who hasn't got a clue what they're talking about?

The games also being effected by the way Uruguay have setup.

Yeah he took the corners too when the squad had Bergkamp and Pires who were more than capable of taking any deadball!

I said both teams are crap.
Glad someone is enjoying this manure though.

Could be like a lot of games so far where it opens up in the second half as players tire in the heat and Uruguay go for the win.

Closest Uruguay - or indeed either side - has come to opening the scoring.

Sharp reactions from Buffon.
O'Neill

Brilliant double save from Buffon.
