I don't care. I wanted Ivory Coast through and Greece out. It's like when stinking Portugal got that last minute goat against USA the other night.

They got a goat?!? Damn them

I feel your pain

I wanted them through too but if it's a fair shout then I'll go along with it as that's the game.

It's a good job us lot are not refs isn't it
I think the penalty was borderline anyway. The ref should've given Ivory Coast the benefit of the doubt.

Greece 2...Ivory Coast 1

I felt it was a match you couldn't say for sure who would win, as there wasn't much difference between both teams. Both of them had degrees of edginess. Enjoyed it anyway.

At least Greece went for it tonight and they did look like the more likely winners throughout. Ivory Coast are such a disappointment.

I thought he was clearly caught. Definite pen imo.

Think Boubacar Barry missed a trick coming that far off his line when the kick was taken.
I thought the same when I saw that side replay

Ivory Coast are up there with England in terms of disappointment, they've had a group of very good individuals who just can't play together for 8 or 9 years. The one time it clicked and they got to an African Nations final they lost on penalties (there might have been another African nations final?)

I think Greece deserved that. They showed more desire (especially in the 2nd half), they had loads of chances, hit the bar and unlike their Euro-winning campaign, the bus was not in sight. And, that penalty - wow, the pressure, score or else were prepping the jet! What a penalty, full of conviction.

As for Ivory Coast, should I be gutted or pissed off at them? I truly can't decide. They had qualification in the palm of their hand, and they lost in it in the most painful way imaginable. But they didn't show enough in the 1st half, and for most of the 2nd, they didn't have enough quality (apart from the goal) and after the equaliser they had a great break which they fluffed. If they had ran the ball into the corner to waste time, they would be in the next round now.

What a match and what a world Cup!

They got the penalty fair and square Kapps
Are you sure? I caught the replay of it and it looked to me as though the Greek player scuffed the ground and tripped over his own foot?

I did too, one of the angles made it very clear. He cost his team their chance to go through and they must be livid.

He pulled back to take the shot and when went to kick caught the calf of the IC player.

Dramatic game without much quality. I wanted Ivory Coast to go through and I could feel their disappointment at the end but they really did throw that match away. First goal was a terrible mistake and they were unlucky for the penalty too. It would have been better just to let Samaras shoot because it would likely have gone well into the crowd. The Ivorians also had lots of attacking situations that they squandered through poor decision making.

At least the Toure brothers can go home to their family. Greece vs Costa Rica - who predicted that?!

I did notice The Ivory Coast getting into great positions in front of goal and outnumbering the Greek defence with lots of space for different options, but instead of having a killer touch and scoring they seemed to flounder and waste time and failing to grab the chances when they came.

A golden generation of underachievers? Where have we seen that before?

Useful tip: Don't call your national team 'The Golden Generation'. Because that seems to be the most efficient way to ensure that they're not.

I felt Kalou in particular was wasteful, though that might just be because I'm more familiar with him and already didn't rate him.

The benefit of the doubt should always go to the attacking team.

GREEEEEEEEEEEECE.....!!!!!!!

Yea - sorry a little late to the party but only just logged on.....!!!!

What a fantastic game last night - that penalty was awsome - he had the weight of the world on his shoulders as he coolly stepped up to take THAT penalty...!!!

Apparently, its the first time they have gone through to the last 16, in their history (well apart from winning Euro 2004).

Well done boys....can't wait for Sunday....!!!
