EE: Why does Johnny get so much screen time?
I think he is a poor actor, with a limited range of skills. I think he is simply there to add some 'totty' to the screen, and because girls seem to like the actor (even though the character is gay).
Johnny Carter makes Abi Branning look like a good actor. I hope the rumours of Johnny's death are true. |

Is this a serious thread?
![]() I think many characters in EE have their time where they feature often. Sam Strike is such an underrated and natural actor. Yes he's fit as - but he does have a good character - and I as a viewer want him to be happy and I almost feel maternal towards him, like I wanna look after him and keep him out of harm's way. I don't know where the rumours of Johnny dying have come from - I'm assuming and strongly hoping they're false. It would also make no sense in relation to the character. Unless you stemmed this from a passing comment I made in the appreciation thread? My point in there was only that with regards to how long Johnny/Sam stays in the show that I hope the writers have the character's best interests and don't ruin his character that he has atm, only strengthens it and in turn is a coming of age storyline where Johnny truly gets out there, gets a boyfriend and is happy - and can look after himself. |

He made it look like a parody, and his constant battle with his mum is boring, too. But that's the writers' fault. |

It may have been your comment, I remember lurking the other day and seeing something along those lines.

Sam Strike was very good in the Albert attack scenes I think - he was shaken up and frozen with fear. The only part of your post here that I agree with is that Johnny's and Linda's battle is becoming a bit weary now - I am hopeful that Friday's ep will bear some resolution to that with the gay pride event. |

His acting was cringe worthy when the bar was attacked (as was Sharons). He's certainly not given screen time because of his "acting" abilities.

Johnny has not had excessive amounts of screen time. He is finally getting some resolution for a long running, slow burning storyline that started back in January; that was a whole six months ago. He has had two big weeks in total before recent events; the week he came out and the week that The Albert opened. Other than that he's very much been a supporting character. Now he's being focused on in order to finally resolve the ongoing storyline with Linda so that the storyliners can get both characters to a point where they can move on to new things. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.
As for the comments about Sam Strike being a bad actor, well, I respectfully disagree. He's a young guy that's obviously very passionate about acting and this is the first time he has ever done serious drama. He's not always perfect but he has an extremely expressive face, works well with anybody he acts alongside and is improving his physical presence all the time. He does emotional scenes very well, as well as the more light hearted ones. And it's not down to his looks that I'm saying this, otherwise I'd rate Ben Hardy far more highly than I do. |

He's dreadful. Always just wandering about, being a little prat and moping about how his mother doesn't understand him. Just awful.
And he cries ridiculously often. |

Sam Strike certainly isn't the best actor but I can't help but like Johnny. He is a nice decent character. Which in a show like EastEnders stands out a lot more.

Totally disagree with the OP. I think Sam Strike is one of the most natural actors they have on the show and I find him totally believable. At last he has been given some screen time after being very much in the background for the last few months so the OP is wrong there too.Refreshing change to see him given a proper storyline too. As for ru ours about his death I think the OP is making them up entirely to provoke a reaction.

But thats just me.

Yeah he is getting alot of screen time, he must be a favourite to write for. Not the best actor but a good enough character, I like him.

He's bloody gorgeous that's why! I certainly don't mind.
He's very sweet and likeable too, it's good to have more and more gay characters in soap who aren't stereotypes like Sean Tully in Corrie (we have Ste and John-Paul HO, Finn in Emmerdale, Johnny etc,) |
