Ive been away for a few weeks and only catching up with footie. I am genuinely sad that England didn't make it into the latter stages of the World Cup. But their fate was sealed the second the FA appointed Hodgson , a proven looser and someone who is totally strategically naïve and bereft of any winning mentality whatsoever.

Sad to see but if English footie is to succeed at this level serious attention is required at every level at must start at the FA itself.

Yep, it was completely Hodgsons fault that Gerrard flicked the ball directly into Suarez's path and set up the goal that knocked us out. He's the best we've got.

Well it was between him and Harry "how can we lose to such useless sides" Redknapp so the potential candidates weren't particularly attractive.

Maybe as you suggest the lack of options point to a major problem within English coaching from the top to the bottom?

For what its worth I think Hodgson can do well but don't expect anything spectacular from him in terms of tactics/formations.

He did what the press wanted him to do - play youngsters and produce a more attacking style.

Doesn't matter England were loosing this match years ago when the FA appointed his moron and the absence of Terry and Cole didnt exactly help the defence strategy

Is he Stodgeson or Bodgeson ?

He's one of the only top English managers that has European management experience at national and international level.

He's got a hell of a lot of experience.

Like stated earlier - It was him or 'Arrry apparently.

Yes, we would have liked Van Gaal, Hiddink, Ancellotti, Mourhino etc. but it's wasn't happening.

to be fair England have failed under the last few managers they have had, the players are just not that committed to playing international football, All they care about is club football because that is where they get the money from

Unluckyson would be my choice:

Tough Draw
Key Players injured
Experienced players not turning up or making mistakes costing us games.

Basically yes.

He's useless. Always been mediocre. Appointing him was an insane but not surprising decision

They wanted a boring grey dull yes-man, and that's what they got.

We play football basically non stop and our players are world class for there clubs and should be for the England set up. Hodgson is the right man, but he's got one hell of a task to find the right players to lead us to the Euros.

We are playing with a complete shower and it a shambles, but it's not Hodgsons fault.

English players have the benefit of better quality foreign team mates at club level

And better managers.

The money has spoilt the English game. I think too much profile going on players like Rooney who earns £130K a week, shouldn't be publicised. Didn't English Cricket go down a little when the old guard faded out and trying to bring in new blood?

£130k? Where have you been hiding

Spain have three decent teams and the top two spend shit loads of money on players.
For 6 years the national team were pretty much invincible.

England were crap even before the money came into the game.

From 1966 to the present day, they've won the square root of you know what.

They were winning nothing and not even qualifying for major tournaments even when English clubs, with a core of English players were dominating the European competitions during the late 70's and early 80's.

I think Hodgson has done about as well as can be expected.

He's inherited a weak squad with a lot of players coming to the end of their international careers and just as many inexperienced kids. Everything up until now has been a bit makeshift and temporary and that's not his fault. Ever since he started in the job he's been polishing a turd.

Now is his chance to build his England team and we should judge him after the euros.

He's a very experienced guy who has managed all over the place and is by far and away the best English candidate for the job.

For goodness sake, Hodgson is not a moron, and im afraid to tell you John Terry has retired from international football.

You say you have been away and are catching up on football - don't bother.

He inherited Man City's title winning GK, could have got most of Chelsea's defence had Terry and Cole been persuaded to play, Liverpool's midfield and attack and Wayne Rooney, plus solid players from the rest.

He's largely experienced in managing in pub leagues in Scandinavia, four World Cup games 20 years ago (2 losses, 1 draw and a win), and an occasional bigger job where he's usually bottled it. Best English candidate? That isn't saying much. If the English managers offer slim pickings, then the FA should have looked elsewhere.

agreed, but I didn't foresee how much of a disaster he'd prove to be

I'll be gobsmacked if he lasts until the euros in 2016, absolute shambles of a philosophy with giving unproven players a run at the most important tournament in the world.

Read in a rag yesterday, that Steve Bruce would like to manage England

Personally, I'd like to give old sven another run at the job. It feels me with warmth looking back at his time in charge, at least we were exciting as a team, and were consistent quarter finalists, losing only to the best teams. Why on earth did we get rid of him anyway?

Allows Lampard and Gerrard to play at the same time making it likely we won't get 1 win in the World Cup. Insanity.

This is the worst England manager since Steve MccLaren. Yet the FA thinks he is good enough because...?

Sven did alright. Unfortunately the press obsession with who he and his players were shagging was a major distraction.
