We should be asking ourselves WHY he bit the Italian player.
I think this is similar to the last world cup, where Suarez was involved in the worst bit of sportsmanship that I have ever witnessed. Where he handled the ball on the line preventing Ghana going through. Which would have been an incredible achievement for them.
At the time, lots of fans said in this very forum that they understood why he did that,, that "anyone would have done it" and that they would do the same. This never sat well with me.
Firstly, not everyone would do so, otherwise we would be seeing it in almost every game.
Secondly, if you have to cheat so blatantly to win, it is not worth winning. Winning is everything, but it must be done in the right way.
In last nights game against Italy, there was only a few minutes left. As it stood, Suarez and his team were out. He had to do something. So in this instance he decided, as it was clearly pre-meditated, to try and get a response from a defender off the ball and win a penalty.
To do this he needed a reaction. An elbow, a crunching tackle off the ball would be spotted, so he deliberately used a tactic that he thought would not be seen.
He moves to the player, opens his mouth wide and puts his mouth to the shoulder. He then raises his position and comes down with his front teeth.
The opponent feels the pain of being bitten and reacts with a swiping elbow - just what suarez wanted.
Suarez goes down in a heap clutching his face, asking for the penalty kick.
Taking the bite aside for a moment, it is a complete show of unsporting behavior. Cheating. Trying to get a penalty and a player sent off.
WITH the bite, and his previous record of doing so twice before, he really does need a ban.
I think a year out of all football would be fair.
