Don't know if this has been mentioned, but apparently his lawyer is now arguing that the picture of the bite marks in Chiellini's shoulder is a photoshopped fake.

If you wanted retaliation, biting seems an odd choice as you'd be too shocked that someone's tried to bite you than anything else. What's wrong with something comforting and traditional like talking about having sex with someone's sister? Old school.

Idiot lawyer. There is enough original videotape evidence for frame by frame shots to be examined. The Italian team doctors will also have taken photos of the bite marks. Is the lawyer suggesting that this is just a giant conspiracy by hundreds of organisations against Suarez and the Uruguay team.

That's one possible interpretation. I wouldn't rule it out completely, but I think its also possible that he just lost it and it wasn't premeditated.

What was the scenario when he did it against Chelsea a year ago. Was it towards the end of an important must-win game like this one?

The lawyer's and Uruguyans are making themselves look like idiots by claiming that he didn't really do it and its all some sort of conspiracy. Its completely obvious from all the footage that Suarez bit him.

If they want to defend him and plead for some sort of leniancy they should be going down the line of Suarez being sorry and ashamed of what he did and admitting that he's got a problem that he intends to seek professional help with.

It is the same tactic Blatter has resorted to.

They will ban him. Fifa is close to fracture already, ignoring it would maybe enhance a world breakup situation.

I've played against the Broadmoor Patients in our old Saturday League. Even they never tried to bite me.
Threatened to stab me with the refs pencil but never bit!

This is a very good article on the matter:-

They all forget the fact that biting can pass disease.
In the past we have had people jailed for infecting other with HIV etc etc
The worry is that we seldom know what disease an attacker carries.

Another thing that this amplifies is that cheating is much the norm.
So now we get theline that is just a normalised part of football, in that cheating like anything else is OK, as long as you never admit to it.

I'm pretty sure their Clubs are fully aware of their medical condition having gone through extensive medical check ups

I also wonder if teams could legitimately refuse to have their team play against Suarez as a risk to their health and safety? Obviously this is an extreme example but something that could be considered.

This isn't a case of someone just temporarily losing their temper and lashing out, then feeling remorse later and making a sincere apology. This is a total thug who sees nothing wrong in degrading other people by biting them. And for the THIRD time.

Quite frankly, he doesn't deserve to play football again at any level. How many more times is he going to be allowed to physically assault someone before people stop making excuses for him? ''Oh, but he's such a talented player.'' ''He's a respectable family man off the pitch, and known for being nice.'' I don't care how good he is, and how nice he is off the pitch. He's an absolute disgrace to his national team, his club, himself and football in general.”

I agree with every single word you have said here.

Yes, I think a Sunday league player would have been banned for life on the first or second offence.

And Liverpool's inexcusable actions were simply corporate money decisions.

Weirdly enough, the circumstances were almost identical only this time he was under more pressure as he'd conceded the penalty Chelsea were leading by earlier. After biting he tried pulling Ivanovic's arm towards his own face, pretended to be hit and writhed around asking for a penalty. He looked even more ridiculous as Ivanovic was pushing his head away at the time trying to get him off. It is pretty damning that the last two bites have been sneaky ones in the opposition penalty area, never outside the box.

Yep, there has to be logic to it all.
My thoughts can well have been well wrong with 2+2 =5 for me and that right.

A 'bite of god' attempt then?

CONMOBEL have sent their heavies to the FIFA meeting to plea for leniency, if it works his ban may not be as long as expected.

From what I can see, cheating is unofficially sanctioned.
And especially so, by TV football pundits. So maybe in time they will come to admire the attempt.
Was it a free kick, was it a penalty. 50% of the time no one really knows,. Players fall over whenever there is anything near to being contact.

I bet I find 100s of cheats deserving of a ban in this world cup, half of them with pundits saying 'the defender should not have done that, definite free kick'.

Interesting to know how they can plead for leniency when Suarez and his national association claim he didn't do anything...

He should get a one or two match ban. It's not such a big deal, anyway. A peck on the shoulder. My cat bites me all the time but do I ban her for a whole football season? Heck, no. If my cat can get away with it so can Luis Suarez.

If Suarez was as cute as your feline friend there'd be no problem.
