I think the FA should offer financial incentives to the lower PL teams and maybe the upper Championship teams to play English players. This would at least give them money, to compensate for not winning trophies and the financial gains likely to come from that.

That's got to contravene some kind of weird employment law somewhere I'd have thought.

^^ Hmm not sure I know the EU allows free flow of workers to other countries, but it can't make you employ someone from another country.
The other idea is somehow to start a new football team using only the home nations as it's players, base it in London (maybe). I also would like to see an attack minded coach who understands English players, maybe hire Giggs as a part time manger, he's going to get experience from Van Gal (sp) and also experience leading a team. A win win situation, the England managers job doesn't need to be full time after all. |

^^ Could be, I'm sure if Spain did it FIFA wouldn't say a word, but an English club we'd get a lifetime ban.

Luke Shaw is an example why England preform so badly. He has accepted a generous salary at Man United instead of being ambitious by playing for a club like this to gain European experience!

Luke Shaw £30m
Adam Lallana £25m Similar players playing in France or Holland cost a third of that. And they wonder why so few English players are given a chance at top clubs. For example Mirallas cost Everton £6m, is Lallana better than him? |

Another good example was Liverpool breaking their transfer record to sign Luis Suarez (49 goals in 48 games for Ajax in last full season; 7 goals in 11 internationals in last calendar year including 3 in the World Cup) for £22.8m.
Then breaking it again just hours later to sign none other than Master Carroll for a cool £35m. |

It's not the Premier League's fault. It's not too many foreign players either. The problem is the lack of coaches at all levels. We have plenty of talented kids, most of it goes to waste in the academy system. What talent we do produce is coached in the "win at all costs, don't take any chances" mindset.
We have far more talent playing at top levels than teams that have done better than us. How come we can't beat Uruguay and Costa Rica who have far fewer quality players to pick from than we do? Blaming the Premier League for our troubles is very much the wrong target. England were doing badly in tournaments when the First Division, as it then was, was made up of mostly British players. Most of those players were nowhere near international standard, so not selectable. At least the PL has raised standards of football to a very high level and the few English players who make it into top sides are almost all international quality. Ultimately, we failed in Brazil because we have a lack of good central defenders, and the tactics were wrong. Maybe Smalling can be turned into a decent partner for Cahill, but we need four or five really. We have an abundance of forwards and enough midfield players. We have three good keepers. Just a weak and disorganised defence and that was what cost us in the first two games. Gerrard failed as a captain too. For all his enthusiasm he is not a great leader on the pitch, he doesn't read the game well. He should have spotted the left side weakness against Italy, for example, and sorted it out. In his position as a holding player he should have protected the defence better. But he isn't really a holding player by nature so didn't do that. We should do what Belgium did. Put the emphasis on skills development and not on winning at all costs. Encourage flair and skilll, not just size and physical development. A player like Messi would not make it through our development system. Above all we need to employ more trained coaches. |

I think England could do with having a long-haired, bearded player on the team. That's what most of the decent teams seem to have, so maybe it's time we gave it a go instead of all these sensible haircuts.

Tom Ince was being chased by several Italian clubs and looked close to joining Inter Milan, but he's apparently turned then down to sign for the mighty.........Hull City
That's what's wrong with English football |

Better coaches required. The standard isn't great in this country compared to the likes of Spain and Germany imo.
McLaren seems to agree http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28078703 Also the England team weren't well drilled especially defensively this WC. |

That's what's wrong with English football He may have been a bench player for Inter the same as he would be for the top PL teams. |

Johann Cruyff said many years ago that football was all about small details and he was right. Rooney hits the bar from a matter of inches, Balotelli messes up a good chance , Suarez bites an Italian defender and the Italians switch off at a corner from which Uruguay score. Chile hit the bar in the last moments and then lose on penalties. The margins are tiny and the consequences massive. On another day Italy and England qualify, it just depends on the odd bounce of the ball or the odd misplaced pass.

Surely a move abroad is a big decision. He may want to stay in the UK/England for personal reasons.
He may have been a bench player for Inter the same as he would be for the top PL teams. I'm happy for England to not qualify/ perform badly in tournaments as long as young English players aren't hungry enough. It's all they deserve |
