It could be the hub or the phone. It sounds as though the combination of phone and Home Hub is triggering a line fault. The problem might be working out which of the three elements (phone, HH, line) is actually at fault.
The first test however requires a NTE 5 type master socket with the removable lower half on the faceplate. If you do have one of these take the lower section off to reveal the test socket. Plug HH and phone into this socket and test to see if the same thing happens. If it does not then it could be something wrong with the faceplate or any extension wiring and phones etc that you have. If it is your internal wiring then that is for you to sort out. BT will not be interested in fixing that and will likely charge you if you did call them out and it's your wiring causing the fault. If it still happens you need to try swapping out the phone and HH if at all possible. The phone may be easier than the HH. But basically the idea is to swap the phone for one you know works properly on another line. If it works OK on your line then your phone is suspect. If it has the same issue then try the HH. You can plug any old router into the line. It may not connect to BT but as long as it normally works OK it should suffice for testing. Again if the fault clears then it could be the HH. If the fault persists regardless of what combination of kit you hang off the line then it is a line fault. Possibly a high resistance fault. Of course the big problem may be finding kit you can swap over for yours to do the testing. But is might be worth it, as I mentioned above if you do call out BT and the fault is with any of your kit then you could be looking at a three figure bill. |

You need a filter on each socket in you house if there is something plugged into it, such as a Skybox, bell ringer, phone. If you already have done this then the extension cabling is faulty. You already have proved this is the case by plugging the router & phone into one filter on the test socket and a new phone won't cure the problem.
