Not true. I checked coverage myself and they also checked in store, before I switched to 3, and was promised excellent coverage for calls and data, at my home address, reality is at home I never have more than 1 bar indoors, and often no bars (not a problem with the Three InTouch app that I am trialling), and data is often 3g and never 4g indoors (not a problem as I have wireless at home). Away from home my coverage is excellent.
How did you get onto the Three InTouch app trial ?, I asked them recently & they told me they didn't need any more beta testers. Trouble is I didn't even know about the app until they started publicising it.

I've just moved from EE to Three and in my house I've gone from great coverage to extremely iffy.
You might find it gets better over the coming months, especially as you had a good EE signal. There are still EE (ex-Orange) masts being added to the MBNL network. I think the aim is to have them all done by the end of the year.

I got on the trial today. As someone else mentioned, you will need to pursue a network coverage issue with Three support. This is a little long winded in that you must report the issue and then wait for the network team to call you. When they do you will have to explain the issue (no reception) and where you experience it. Also tell them that it has always been this way (not a temporary issue).

After a lot of checking they will probably advise that there are no issues in that area. They may discuss a signal box (I already have one, so I simply said I would prefer to try the app as the affected area is not my home). Then they have to read some disclaimers and add you to the list for activation.

The next day (before midday) you will receive a text with the download link. Install (side load) and you will be working.

The app is fairly simple, it appears to work quite well so far and is nice and clear to talk on. The text messaging works fine except any received messages while on WiFi will only appear in the Three Intouch app (they are not copied to your normal message client).

All in all, this makes my previous VoIP arrangements (using call forwarding) redundant. It also seems to be very clear with only the slightest of delays.

I already have a signal box, but they wouldn't put me on. I didn't get passed to the network team this time though, like I did when I wanted the home signal. They found it hard to understand "yes, I know I have a home signal, but there are places where my phone doesn't work where the wifi app would be really good"

My understanding is that the app was only planned to be available to a limited number of pre-decided customers who have helped Three do beta tests before. Some people have been put on the beta as a retention tool where they have escalated a network issue case that is confirmed by going through the process and that meets the critera.

If you call up and say 'I just want the app' they'll probably say no, unless you can quote a workplace or home address where you spend a large amount of time and you get no signal. To actually get on it they will perform a number of tests which take about 5 minutes to run, based on the postcode where you say you have the problem and confirmation that your phone is without signal every day at the times you say. Either they didn't go through this process, you didn't go through to faults, or you didn't trigger the criteria.

In 6 or 7 weeks it'll be on the app store, so I wouldn't be too upset about not being on the beta. There is a bug list, so at the moment the app may not be 100% reliable until the release version anyway.

It sounds like the same process as for the home signal, but as I say, they wouldn't even transfer me to the network team or whoever would handle it. If they would let me, I could happily reel off some addresses where coverage isn't good enough, including my house.

I know it's a beta and will be around soon, that's why I am not pushing the issue. It'd be nice if they included all the home signal users automatically though, as we all clearly have signal problems that it could help fix.

Anyone on Three having issues with CSFB when they have a 1800Mhz 4G signal but no 3G to back it up? There must be areas where this is the case surely, particularly indoors?
It's my understanding that EE are only going to have 800Mhz when they have VoLTE as well. This is the reason they are running 4g 1800 at a lower power than 2G 1800. So there is something to fall back to.
800 with no voice would cause real problems I would imagine.

We should remember it is still a beta though, there are a number of issues with it right now which is why they want testers first.

The day the Three InTouch app was announced on here last week, I called Three and asked for it because of my low signal at home, they said no initially but then just sent me the link to download it the next day. I think. Works great for calls, there is one issue for me with text messages arriving thru the app when connected to wifi and no signal at home, so losing synch with my default SMS app, but that will be ironed out by public release I'm sure.

Thanks for the info guys! I live in a pretty built up area so if rural connectivity is good I'm pretty optimistic, I never knew they shared masts either, definitely makes the decision worth it!
note that Three & EE only share their 3G networks, 4G is separate.

Though in fairness the coverage on 1800MHz 4G should be pretty similar as they are the same base stations.

Three are a long way behind EE with regard to 4G.

Coverage is nowhere near similar.

I meant when EE and Three have completed there initial rollouts sorry for not clarifying that.

Thanks for the various comments here on getting the Three InTouch app. My coverage is fine at home & work, but several of my relations live in an area with no Three indoor coverage but good WiFi so I thought the app would be ideal.

They have already said no to me once, so I shall have to wait until it's general release, which should only be 4 weeks or so away I guess.

Always get a payg sim to check before you switch to test your most common locations..

3 do offer a home booster.
