Can't control my tv
I have a 50" LG Plasma tv.
This afternoon I dropped the remote control in my mug of tea for a couple of seconds. I grabbed it as quickly as I could, took the batteries out, towel dried it and shook it until no more liquid came out. But I can longer control my telly No volume, no menus, nothing. I can't even switch the telly off. Is there anything I can do ? Could get a new remote from LG or Curry's (where I bought it from) ? |

To open it remove any screws including hidden ones under labels and ease it apart with an old credit card. New remotes are best bought on ebay or similar. Currys will make excessive profits from one. |

Are you sure there are no controls (touch sensitive or behind a panel) on the TV itself?
A universal remote would probably be a cheaper option than a replacement. Top tip: Keep your remote control by your right hand and your cup of tea by your left. |

There are no "hidden panels" covering buttons on the tv.
There are no labels on the remote with screws underneath, I can't get a credit card between the top and bottom of the remote. Someone on FB suggested putting the remote in a bag of rice to absorb any moisture. I'm skint at the moment, so I can't buy another remote. |

Tea and coffee are the worst things you can give a thirsty remote control. They will leave behind a residue that can ruin the circuit board inside.
It needs to be taken apart and cleaned up, ideally. If you have a thin bladed screwdriver it might be possible to gently prise the two halves of the case apart. But be careful as you can easily break the little plastic clips that hold it together. Once apart use a cloth that doesn't disintegrate when wet and lightly dampen it in water and use it to clean off any remnant of the tea. Then use a dry cloth to dry it off. I have plenty of souvenirs at work of expensive kit that has been ruined by being given a drink of tea or coffee and left to stew for days before anyone owns up. So the sooner you can clean it out the better. |

Have you checked the manual? The manual controls may be hidden under the front bezel |

Try putting the remote in a bag of rice for a day. No matter how hard you try otherwise, you might not be getting all the water out. This action sometimes gets mobile phones working again.
Your contents insurance should cover it but the excess is likely to be greater than the cost of a new remote. |

Tea and coffee and the like do leave behind a residue when they dry which can be a real bu**er to get rid of and maybe even terminal for the device affected. I once spent several hours attempting to clean up a circuit board from a digital mixer that someone had decided to give a drink of tea to and not tell anyone for about 4 days. In the end I gave up as the tea had attacked the circuit board and ruined it beyond recovery. £400 for a new one . Most expensive cup of tea the person concerned ever made.

What's the model number of the TV/

Are there screws under where the batteries are placed?

Possibly touch buttons, like some Samsungs?, or even round the back of the set (like many new Sonys).
It would be EXTREMELY rare for the set not to have the minimum of buttons 'somewhere'. Of course it may be different for the OP's TV - without the model we're a bit in the dark |

What's the make/model
Are there screws under where the batteries are placed? However, someone posted on here a good while back - that with a Sony remote control if you throw it at a wall it all beaks apart, and causes no damage whatsoever. I've actually tried this multiple times, and it works - no damage at all, and they go back together perfectly.I don't know if it would work on an LG remote though?. |

Indeed. A cursory glance at the internet shows a 50" LG TV having the control on the bottom left hand edge behind the front bezel.
Of course it may be different for the OP's TV - without the model we're a bit in the dark 50" plasma has button controls bottom right underneath the frame, the 32" LED has touch controls bottom right on the front of the frame. Both labeled clearly when you are close to the screen - surprised there's no indication on the OP's screen, if not on the screen some indication in the user manual. |

Most often there are no screws, they just clip together (and aren't intended to be taken apart) - and levering with a screwdriver generally causes some damage, but little enough if you're careful.

When you get your new remote, wrap it in clingfilm.

No feedback from the OP even though he's posting in other sections
