I have a faulty jvc vcr, the tape often gets jammed, this happened about 10 months after i got it, its now 3 years old, i got it from curry's and i said to someone in their about it and she said sometimes vcrs do that with some tapes and not to worry about it and after a couple of months when it was out of waranty it started doing it again and then it got worse so i brought a new one, if i remember correctly under the sales of goods act the retailer is responsible for the product for up to 6 years after purchase.

can i get anything from currys or is the only thing i can do with it is bin it or ebay or a large doorstop?

if i can can someone point me in the direction of the document please thanks.

IMO I think you have left things a bit late. I assume you have tried a number of different types, lengths and quality (named brand) of tapes? Longer tapes are more prone to jamming.

The document is at:

Unfortunately many people interpret it to mean that everything sold has a six year warranty - it doesn't. If it did, most manufacturers would go bust. It's really designed to protect consumers against design or common faults that should really be the responsibility of the manufacturer.

i didnt think i would get anywhere with it, it can happen with any tape, 3h, 4h, basically when i put a tape in sometimes it doesnt take it in, i then switch it on out of standby and the tape goes in and then switches itself off, then i switch it on again and i doesnt know theres a tape in it unless i press play and it then loads the tape and sounds like im putting the tape in (the loading mechanism i guess) and is fine. the other thing it does is sometimes i put a tape in press play and it doesnt appear, the channel the vcr is tuned into is displayed and the counter appears on screen as if it was playing, i then have to eject the tape and put it in once or twice before is works fine again, it started about a month out of the 1 year waranty and only happened once or twice a month, then over time it got worse until november 2004 when it did it about 3-4 times a week so i brought a new vcr but kept the jvc just as a spare.

if anyone knows how to fix this fault it would be appreciated as its a very good machine when it works especially for copying my mini-dv camcorder tapes as it has s-video input, authough i will probably buy a dvd-recorder in the summer when the new panasonics come out. The model number of it is HR-S6955.

Thanks
