Pleased Algeria went through, didn't watch this match, but weren't impressed at all with Russia in their other games.

Time for Algeria and Emily Thorne to get the red ink out:
"When deception cuts this deep, someone has to pay. Algeria's chance to qualify for the next round in 1982 was stolen. Some suggested forgiveness. I have other ideas. They say vengeance is a dish best served cold, but, sometimes, it’s as warm as a stadium in Brazil. Algeria died an broken team in 82, betrayed by Germany, Austria, and FIFA." "When everything you love has been stolen from you… …sometimes all you have left is revenge. Like I said, this is not a story about forgiveness."

Jeez, you don't get much chance to savour the atmosphere after the final whistle on ITV4 do you? Fantastic scenes as Algeria make the KO stages for the first time and after 5 seconds it's off to an ad break.
Jesus, barely any post-match analysis, "we're done here, cheerio!" |

Annoying seeing some of the rubbish teams that are getting through to the 2nd round. I think England could well have qualified from 4 maybe 5 of the other groups.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I wonder if he allowed the players out of their prison cells this time? |

Anyway, ecstatic to see the fiercely racist and homophobic Russian nation out. Hopefully a miracle will come to pass and the World Cup won't go there. The fact that it can be held in a natipn where black visitors have apparently been advised in the past not to go further than a certain distance from Moscow city centre is even more of a disgrace than giving it to Quatar in my opinion.

Nope. Apparently the players were on the same lockdown in the back of beyond as ours were.
![]() ![]() ![]() When will he learn? Being a Prison Warden did squat for England or Russia. |

England are a rubbish team. I'm afraid I disagree with those who claim we played well and that mere "details" were the problem. In terms of midfield control, our general play and our lack of precision under pressure I'd put us on a par with Algeria and even then I'd take Brahimi every day of the week and twice on Sundays. I'm afraid I'm with the excellent Chris Waddle on this one.

Not happy that Russia are out
, I was rooting for them tonight, wanted more opportunities to look at their handsome goal-keeper Igor Akinfeev; I'm supporting Greece now.

Well done Algeria. Underrated but deserved to go through ahead of Russia.

Well, he seemed to know where the ball went, so it couldn't have blinded him. Still, it's possible it dazzled, but he didn't seem to show it, like shielding his eyes or rubbing them. Still, the fan who did that should be found, if possible, and barred from future games. Have the Russians complained?

Germany-Algeria should be interesting, last two times I've seen Germany play African teams, they've struggled
