I don't know how anyone can claim Argentina are 'clear favourites' in this tournament - throughout practically all of their games they've been underwhelming, and bar individual moments have lacked creativity, and been extremely poor defensively. Other sides - Holland, Colombia, France and even Germany despite their poor display yesterday have all looked far better than Argentina during this tournament. This tournament is still wide open, with no real clear favourite.

That match deserves the combined analysis of Robbie Savage and Ian Wright.

If they win this, they will be favourites. Brazil have a tougher route through and they are currently favourites.

I guarantee they won't

Prediction : Brazil or Argentina won't won't win the World Cup. I've never seen two teams looking as bad as this at the last 16 stage and then going on to win the tournament.

It's tightening up. Brazil 13/5, Argentina 7/2.

Neither will win IMO. I've a feeling it will be one of the 'form' teams like the Netherlands or Colombia.

I thought Di Maria was better then what we saw today. I guess just an off game. Argentina can only improve after this bore fest. Switzerland were unlucky though

Plus it would have the advantage of being a final where the winner hasn't won it before. |

Argentina have a better overall players than holland, netherland have 30 to 30 plus robben with 30 year old Van Persie and many unknown faces and robben has been the driving force behind their attack.

True : you would expect a team like Argentina to cruise through a last 16 match, not be in a titanic struggle against a supposedly much weaker team.
The reason for the poor game was because two good teams cancelled each other out.

The Swiz decided not to play and just sit and defend, it is always difficult to score against such mentality. Argentina will come alive the first big attacking team they face.
I still don't see why teams hold out for penalties it is such a lottery and by no means a guaranteed win. Surely just hammer it for 90 minutes and let the skill on the pitch mean something. |
