Show's over folks, and I reckon WC 2014 held in Brazil was the right place for it, as we saw Brazil the country too, and the beach, which we may never have seen or even thought about.

And that's the end of the 2014 World Cup.

Well done Brazil on defying all expectations to stage a quite remarkable tournament.

Just like to also say how much I've enjoyed sharing it and chatting about it with all your good selves on here for the past month.

Perhaps creating some of these threads for the big games in the new domestic season to come might be a good idea.

And that's it. Sniff.

Lovely BBC montage. Lovely World Cup. And the best team won.

The ultimate humiliation for England.

To not appear in the highlights reels... it was as if they were not even there

Bye Mr Alaln Hansen ..... I've always enjoyed his analysis.

Still had many years of punditry, but got out when he wanted and when he was still effective. Happy retirement to him.

After the Brazilain teams performance, I bet most of the country would disagree with that! The huge cost they paid with all the poverty that exists, and now they have a big brand new stadium in the middle of nowhere that they have no use for! Doubt they'll be hosting it agaain in a hurry!

Enjoyable tournament and top class banter in this sub-forum, which has overwhelmingly been good natured and tolerant, not always the case among partisan football supporters

I'll miss alan on match of the day. I know a lot of armchair footballers don't like him, but he was good with the little time he had to analyse a game. For some reason i was missing motson tonight too.

They really do it well. The only thing that ruined it was flipping England and their all-too-brief moments of goal joy. Oh well.

Right then! Who is gonna do the Match Threads for Russia 2018? Is it too soon?

Their last win was only 24 years ago, England's is 48.

You have to be aged at least 55 to even remember it.

Perhaps if we were a team of the four home nations ...... England could have done with Gareth Bale.

I've been to a euros but not a World Cup, so would like to go to one.

Russia may be my last chance in Europe as the next time it comes to Europe probably be too old to enjoy it
