Is football a CWG sport as it is in the Olympics?

No. Thankfully. They have rugby instead.

Perhaps but that's a case of "could have", compare our record to Germany's- four wins and runners-up four times- a total of eight finals. England have only won once and that was our only final. They've also won the European Championships three times and been runners up three times- a total of six finals, England have never been in a final.

It's incredible really because when it really matters Germany deliver and England do not.

I can live with that. Olympics football is such a lame effort when compared to the WC.

I was born in 1996 and can remember the 2002 world cup and have vague memoires of the 2000 Olympics so anyone born before may remember 1998.

would rather have a seven a side tournament, played on the hockey pitches, like what they played in the paralympics

My first World Cup was 1998, I sort of remember it.

The England-Argentina game anyway.

We went to the US-Japans womens final at Wembley in 2012 and it wasn't that different to a normal championship game.. but then again the women focus on the olympics and the world cup - they don;t have the distractions of the permier league, champions league etc etc...

The mens game by contrast... no one cares about the competition and no one wants to risk injury playing it.

Congratulations Germany- the best team won. Argentina just couldn't take their chances on the night.
Glad Rodriguez got Golden Boot, Messi getting the Golden Ball was wrong though.

Congratulations to Germany. Overall they deserved it over their performances in the final and overall in the tournament. By the way I was wondering if the world cup can have a best player award, a golden boot and a golden glove awards how about a golden whistle for best referee and golden flag for best linesman awards and who would you nominate for those awards? PS what's the difference between the best player and golden boot awards?

Golden boot is for the most goals scored so obviously strikers are more likely to win it.. goalies... not a hope in hell. Golden ball is for the best performance so in theory any player can win it.

Ref - hmm - Howard Webb actually had a good world cup from what I remember.. one of the few to stand up to the Brazilians

I must agree with this. That song from Woodkid just fit perfectly, really captured the energy of this world cup imo.

Don't agree with Messi getting player of the tournament, much better candidates out there.

Golden Boot is for the most goals scored

You could argue that the best ref award is the team that officiates the final (barring a few circumstances).
