I think he's being far too pessimistic about the future. Shaw, Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sterling, Lallana, Barkley, Sturridge, Walcott, etc are all quality players. We may not yet have a single "stand-out" player who is genuinely world class, but any of those would probably squeeze into the squads of most nations.
I agree with him about Hodgson. In this World Cup, you can see other managers with far less to work with than Roy have been able to put together teams that can compete with the best. He's a decent guy, a safe pair of hands, but he lacks any imagination.

Scholes, having said nowt for years, is now turning into football's answer to Private Fraser.
We're all doomed. Has he had anything good to say about anyone yet?

One thing I would say is why don't these former players get involved in coaching and helping our youngsters...they do seem quick to give an opinion which is totally within their rights.

However their experience and input would be more useful helping somebody on the side-lines.

I love Scholes' opinions at the moment. Who would have thought he would be so outspoken after he retired.
is he writing it, or is it just his name to it?

I must say that as a United fan, I'm shocked at Scholesy.

I don't have a problem with what he has said, because he is largely correct; it's the fact that he's said it at all.

For 20 years at United, he barely uttered more the 25 words.

In fact, for many years, I didn't know what Paul Scholes sounded like, because he never spoke.

Since he retired, he's been coming out with some home truths & it just seems so unlike him.

Ah fair enough - wasn't sure if that was just a short term fix to help Giggs.
