Mildly depressed that my brain conjured up that reference.

Belgium are giving the commentators every opportunity to label them as the cliche 'talented individuals' not a team. For me they have a potential star of the tournament in Hazard if he steps up, and Mertens looks dangerous.....however I'm just not convinced so far.

Both Kompany and Vermaelen are doubtful, along with the banned Defour.
Ouch. Altidore is to be back for 'team USA'. |

But he ignored it and created another thread anyway.
OP - I think you need to post a link in Peters officially unofficial thread to this thread. Edit - see you have already done that OP

I'm full on Uncle Sam for this one. I'm not sure if it's Belgium being an anti-climax so far or Lukaku rewarding my golden boot money by not touching the ball since May, but foam fingers and shots in the upper 90 right in the cookie shelf it is.

Go USA! (that's a new one on me in any context).

Ouch. Altidore is to be back for 'team USA'. I've backed Belgium to be the best European team at the tourney but they have not been convincing up to now. Eden at al need to buck up |

Good that Altidore is back if it's been confirmed, it looked as if his World Cup could be over after that injury.

Apparently the USA uses the term "flopping" instead of diving - for that reason alone, they need to win

I can't believe the Klinsmann left Donovan behind. He's always great for the US and him and Dempsey together would make real trouble for the strongest sides.

God bless America. U-S-A! U-S-A! Wooooooooooooooo!!!!!1111!!
They've shown a lot of desire and commitment in their play. They've endeared themselves to me because that and I'll be hoping they win as a result. Belgium, well, they've just stuttered through so far and not left much of an impression. Mertens has looked lively as an individual. |

I've got a feeling the USA might pull this one off, not been impressed with the Belgians, too slow in their build up and no guile.

I do like these American Englishmen, and having Herr Klinnsman in charge is perfect.
There's Clint Rooney, and Altimeter and of course all the others whose names escape me right now. USA! USA! Go play soccer-ball! OK! |

Remember folks this isn't the biggest game in US' football history.
That was back in 1930 when they reached the World Cup Semi Finals. In the modern age, it was in 2002. When they reached the World Cup Quarter Finals and had to beat Germany to get to the Semis. |

2010 World Cup R16, of the 8 matches 7 were won by the group winners and the only exception was in the US game which was won by the group runner up.
Could history (sort of) repeat itself after the first 7 group winners have won this time around. |

This is probably the kiss of death for them but I really fancy the Americans to get through tonight. Belgium have not impressed me in the slightest.

Can we please get the option of the American commentary! It sounds amazing.
