All they needed to do was score more goals, which didn't happen, but they probably will next time.

Great game. Amazing how easily it could have gone the other way, if not for the miss of the tournament and a terrible offside descision.

15 saves by Howard, can anyone point me to one that was anything other than routine?

His best save came in the first minute. It was poor shooting not great goalkeeping.

Courtois made comfortably the best save of the match from the free kick in ET.

I think there's a few USA players who could get England/European clubs after them if they wanted to move over.

Glad that's over as it was too long a game for me, bad for health etc, but nice to see some goals

Belgium vs Holland Semi ?

Might jump on the Eurostar / Megabus.

Amsterdam is a great place when they are playing

Keepers get slated if they don't make routine saves.
The strikers should be slated for kicking it stright at the keeper.

Well done Belgium - deserved win. Well done USA, a spirited late showing.

But the commentary on this match hit new lows, so pro-American it was riduclous, they scarcely mentioned anything good by Belgium. And Danny Murphy makes even Phil Neville sound animated. Well, not animated. At least alive.

This is a good little montage

Yep, mirrored by people in this thread and UK people on Twitter as well though. Seems a lot of people have bought into the American hype machine.

The BBC have two main agenda's.

"The best world cup ever"

"Messi's the greatest player ever"

That's all they're interested. They have no other agenda. Sick of the hype.

Cracking game that - thought that Belgium were going to pay for their 10-15 clear cut chances that they hit straight at the keeper. Great credit to USA but I am slightly miffed at the BBC patronising plucky loser routine - USA are far better than they are making out and would give anybody a game at this world cup.

I wouldn't fancy picking that Belgium team though as you could easily change 7 or 8 positions and not be weakened - some bench to call upon for sure but that indecision may just cost them in the end.

Again, what kind of weirdo doesn't root for the underdog?

Strangely I thought the BBC have verged on being patronising to the USA - they aren't exactly small fry in the grand scheme of things but the BBC sure as hell made it sound like they were punching against their weight all tournament.

Both.

Can we wait till the world cups over? Can we wait till Messi's career mostly has passed and judge? That's probably the best way. We live in a 24/7 cycle of hype, hype, hype. Froch vs Groves proved to me its get worse over the years.

Rooney's overhead was declared "the greatest goal in English league history" at its very instant. I bet you most of them wouldn't say that now. Every single year we hear "this is the best premier league season to date" etc. Its just annoying for me.

Enjoyed Murphy at the end of extra time when Fellaini fouled and he said, And that's his first tackle. Don't think I have ever seen a player spend so much time watching a match.

I agree that the BBC were quite patronising about the USA team. That was an unbelievable game and a brilliant performance from two very decent teams.

The USA were well organised, defended very well and put some good passes together. The move from the free kick was absolutely brilliant and that kid who came on at right back looked one hell of a player. There is more to that USA team that just passion and desire: there is the kind of skill and organisation that's enough to give any side a tough game.

I congratulate both sides on giving us one of the best games we're ever likely to see at a World Cup.

OR these people who were rooting for USA were doing for their own reasons rather than because they've been told to, and because they don't have some sort of biased attitude towards USA.

Why do people always put other people's opinion down to media hype? Aren't we capable of thinking for ourselves?

"I disagree with an opinion you and a lot of people share, so it's because of the media"

Baarle Hertog may well just be the place to watch that game!! (If you don't know...use Wikipedia)

But if you can't get anywhere near Holland for the Quarters (and hopefully semi's and final) then anywhere near de Hems in Macclesfield St. London would be the place to be. That's if you want a nice, quiet night out to chat with your mates. Not.
