Peter Davison to Colin Baker is my all time favourite followed by Tom Baker to Peter Davison and Jon Pertwee to Tom Baker.

Eccleston's. "So was I" just held so much well-earned meaning on both sides of the camera, the emotion felt very natural and not maudlin like his successors.

Baker to Davison for me. Also have a weird soft spot for Baker to McCoy because it's the first one I could video and watch over and over again!

I've been left a bit cold by the new series regenerations. I want them to be more like a flower opening than a rocket launching.

Baker to Davison remains my favourite of all time. The whole story was really enhanced by the scenes with the mysterious Watcher.

The 11(Smith) -> 12(Capaldi) Regeneration is my favorite, it's so emotional, every time I see it, I'm in tears, Amy's appearance and her line gets me in tears every time, hell I'm welling up just typing about it.

Other than that 9(Ecclestone) -> 10(Tennent) regeneration was good because although I knew Ecclestone was leaving I didn't know he'd done a regeneration scene

I got the regeneration box set last year so out the classic series I like how Troughton was forced to regenerate

Definitely Tom Baker to Peter Davison, although Peter Davison to Colin Baker comes a close second.

The worst, I would say is Troughton to Pertwee, as we didn't really have one, followed by Smith to Capaldi, followed by McCoy to McGann.

It depends on whether you're judging the quality of the scene or the quality of the visual transition from one actor to the next? For example, McGann to Hurt is a great scene, but we don't actually see McGann's face morph into Hurt's.

Likewise, Troughton had a huge final scene and a fitting goodbye, but the only part we "didn't really have" was a visual transition to Jon Pertwee.

Thinking back, The Master's regeneration in "Utopia" was a wonderful moment and one of the best crafted moments in New Who so far. My only regret is we didn't see more of Jacobi's "master" persona.

Aren't all the the re-gen scenes a bit rubbish? Imagine the doctor exploding, only to reform as someone else.

That said, macgann to hurts is the best. Followed by the ecclestones kiss.....

I would imagine that would be some sort of relief after exploding

Probably Four to Five.

Five to Six is usually on equal-footing but one thing I've noticed that I don't like about it is when Peri asks about the bats milk (wanted to put breast milk for a second then, that would have been embarrassing) and the Doctor gives her a cold glare and says 'Finished.....only enough for you'. Like he was annoyed about having to save her and wanted to make her feel bad. I think it would have worked better if he said it much more at peace, in a 'no big deal' kind of way. Let Peri be the one to say it's not right for him to save her at the expense of himself.
Though in one way it nicely prepares her for the 6th Doctor's more abrupt personality and slight chip on his shoulder about her.

But I think it always works better when the Doctor gallantly faces his regeneration, I find it much more satisfying. I never want to be forced to feel sorry for him, infact putting a brave face on it can come across just as vulnerable if it's done right. Like with Three into Four, the special effects are pretty non-existent, but that's overshadowed by Sarah's emotion and the Doctor's heroic attitude to the end.

Interesting interpretation. I wonder if others see it that way too. To me it's more a grim statement of the facts than him expressing annoyance and wanting her to feel bad.

True, it's only an interpretation.
But just the way he pauses after saying it and keeps his eyes fixated on her for a moment, he looks like he's getting annoyed and thinks 'Okay why did I do this again?' lol

It would be understandable if so!

It's an interesting delivery of the line by Peter D, but I'd go along with this. It's a wonderfully heroic 'death', but I can imagine he's not in the best of moods. The line "I might regenerate, I don't know. Feels different this time." explicitly states that Five is thinking that this might be curtains this time. Which raises interesting questions. Why? One knew it was "far from being all over.". Two had the change forced on him. Three says "While there's life, there's..." and the Fourth's regeneration is unusual due to the Watcher's presence.

This suggests that it was never entirely clear cut at the time that a regeneration would *definitely* occur due to the individual circumstances? I think.

Probably just stated the blinkin' obvious there!

I liked Ecclestones into Tennent the best out of the new who and Pertwee into Baker classic who.

Classic Who - 2 to 3
New Who - 8 to War Doctor (probably because we waited so long to see it)

By a country mile imo. The music, the theme of rebirth, the dialogue, everything just hit the mark.

The following regeneration "Change m'dear" was great too, so energetic.

I get that they settled on a regeneration effect for the new series so that it was recognisable to the audience but I miss the days where every regeneration was different and new.

Can't really choose - oddly enough I don't think the actual representation of regeneration has been DW's strongpoint.

I'm tempted to say the non-regeneration of Colin baker in syl McCoy simply because of kate o'mara's wonderfully camp and brilliant entrance: "leave the girl; it's the man I want".
